I'd love to get the answers to a couple of questions from the lucky Indiana folks. Firstly, did Setanta show up on channel 1009 as expected? Secondly, does anyone have a TiVo with cable card who can confirm the 4 digit channel numbers can be tuned? Thanks. |

@verizon.net | And another question for the Indiana tivo folks:
Did Tivo pick up the new channel changes? Did you have to do a new guided setup? |

And Yes...sorry...IMG is where all of those channels were this AM and the 12 of them vanished when the channels were activated. Sorry about the confusion. |

But, the guide is littered with "Coming Soon" messages. TBS HD was on the channel list sent to us, and on the pdf on the FIOS website. But, the guide says coming in December 2007. In fact a number of HD channels that should be there aren't. The guide shows that 805 is Showtime HD, 840 is Starz HD, and 885 is The Movie Channel HD. The other movie channels that should be there aren't there yet. The only news channels are CNBC on 602 and TWC on 519. Thankfully, there is SciFi HD on 680, as Stargate: Atlantis starts it's new season July 11. There are other HD channels, mostly those that FIOS already had. Clicking on a channel that isn't there just brings up an error message.
It seems neither the channel listing I have by the living room TV or the one on the FIOS TV site are all that correct. I'll check for more discrepencies and inaccuracies and post more later.
But, it is nice that when you click on a channel, it tells you what channel is there and where to find the channel that used to be there. But, many channels that we all thought would be there just aren't. Not yet, anyway. And, I won't waste my time trying to find a news item that tells why. Mark F. |

And she said that we won't be getting the HD Channels until late November or early December here in Maryland. Why do people pay much attention to what the CSRs say about future plans and schedules? If they knew what was going on, they would not be answering the phone. |

Interesting channels that are on the guide line-up in Fort Wayne that didn't make it to the actual system are:
TBS HD ESPN NEWS HD CNN HD MSNBC HD LIFETIME WEST HD (Who gives a rats arse?) Lifetime HD (Who gives a poo?) Mojo HD
I think we need to wait a couple more days to see what gets added. TBS-HD, CNN-HD, Lifetime HD are still on the PDF channel lists, so they are good bets to get added soon. MSNBC-HD does not yet exist, so no surprise that it is not there. Mojo was dropped from the PDF lists, so there might have been a contract issue or Verizon is not ready to get the channel.
You may not give a poo about Lifetime HD, nor is this a channel I'm going to watch, but Lifetime is one of the most popular cable networks, usually in the top 5 or 10 cable nets. USA is usually the #1 cable net. If Verizon is going to add the HD version of cable channels, makes sense to give priority to the most watched cable networks. 1009 Setanta Sports is not currently showing up. It is in the Pay Per View area though, right? Would it always be there, or just sometimes? I don't understand why VzB called it pay per view. It's really a subscription channel like the International channels such as RAI and TV5. It costs $14.95 a month but I've never seen Setanta offer channel content via per event pricing to domestic (as opposed to commercial) subscribers. Of course, many years ago they got their start by offering PPV games on BUD to bars and restaurants and I believe they still do that in North America and Europe today. |

I just got FIOS TV last month and just learned all the channels. Now I have to relearn them all again. Oh yeah, it also messed up my DVR since some of my shows were set to selected channel. What a drag. I redid my entire DVR list. |

Oddly when I go to the exact same url you have on this page, I do not see anything other than Fort Wayne and Oregon on the new lineup list. I've reloaded the page and it still does not show up.
Go figure. |

(It has already been several days.) |

| reply to ohiomark I finally found our local doppler radar channel in the guide. The guide has a lot of blank channels (where it says channel so and so has been moved to such and such), so there is room for lots more channels. whenever Verizon can add them. And, there are a lot of coming soon channels, many due by the end of 2007. Verizon time, I guess. Still, despite these little quirks, the guide functions well (except for things like the sparse program info) and another guide update is due later this summer, I believe.
Now, the Fort Wayne pdf definitely has channels listed that weren't included in this update/upgrade. The other link to the Fort Wayne lineup is more or less correct, if a little confusing.
First it lists the channels 50 (USA) and up under HD Experience. But, the HD channel numbers start much higher. Then it lists all the channels 50 (USA) and up again onder FIOS Premier. A bit further down is another category called FIOS Premier which has only four channels listed- Current TV, Reelz, RFD TV and Golf.
And, Showtime movies are first listed in the same category as Turner Classic Movies, American Movie Classics and Fox Movie Channel. Then, further down, it lists them separately. It lists aLL the HBO channels in three places. It has other channel info that is out of whack, as well.
But, as near as I can figure out, it has the new lineup in there among the jumble of channels. Some folks may be unhappy because of the channels we were supposed to get, but didn't. I'm happy for what we did get, such as SciFi HD, and the expanded guide ready for more channels. It may try the patience of many folks, but more channels are coming. Mark F |

Oh yeah, it also messed up my DVR since some of my shows were set to selected channel. What a drag. I redid my entire DVR list. Don't let it put you off. This is the one big move. In the future they should only need to move 1 or 2 at a time, and not much of that.
I've had satellite for years and could tell at the first look at the channel guide that everything was too tightly clustered to have room for adds. This re-inventing the wheel stuff can be tedious, and we forget when cable and satellite went through all this stuff because they did it more gradually over a lot of years. From an overview perspective, Verizon is handling this all pretty well, given the individual, CO, VHO, system wide learning curves that they are subject to. |

The SD channels were spaced out a bit more (news used to start at channel 80, and now it starts at 100), but by and large the ordering remains the same (there is at least one exception that I know of - FNC). About the biggest shape-ups for you would be: a) local subchannels moved from the 800's to the 400s; b) digital music being moved. |

| And, The Weather Channel HD, while looking quite good, doesn't have the "Local On Thr 8s", that is, it doesn't have our local weather conditions and forcasts, like The Weather Channel does on ch. 119. When it's time for the local weather, we get national maps, like a satellite subscriber probably does.
I kind of figured we'd find some little annoyances popping up, and that is one. I guess we could watch TWC in HD, and switch to TWC SD at 8, 18, 28, 38, 48, and 58 minutes past the hour.
So, after all the fuss we've made, we got a couple of new SD channels and a few more HD channels. Not as many additional channels overall, like their letter said we would get. I know that rearranging everything must have been a big feat, but they now have plenty of room for more channels so we wait, untill a message from the top says that they want to share a few scant details with us. The area actually says "Pay Per View / Subscription Sports" and Setanta falls into the latter category. And it is a 24/7 service, so it should be available at all times for their subscribers. On Globecast, who specialize in international programming (and where FIOS new international stations are originating from), they list Setanta under Ireland. However, since it is a all-sports English language station, I think it is better that they grouped it with plans such as ESPN Full Court and probably other subscription sports plans as FIOS adds to their lineup in the future. |

| reply to JohnA Oh, I'm not. I had alot of discovery shows and that moved to 120. but I'm still happy with it all. I have a SD DVR box thru a S-Video hookup and it is the best clearest picture I've seen with S-Video(being they don't have component on the SD box >:() but I'm content with the picture quality. Someday when I get a HDTV then I'll take the leap to HD. |

Someday when I get a HDTV then I'll take the leap to HD. You know, you could opt for the HD DVR now. It's only an extra $3/month, but gives you a couple big advantages:
1) Double the hard drive space (you'll go from 80 GB to 160 GB).
2) Can use component (sounds like your SD TV supports component).
3) Gives you access to all the HD channels - granted, these will be downrezzed, but there are a couple HD-only channels that you're currently not getting (HD Net, HD Net Movies, UHD, MHD, Smithsonian). Since they don't charge extra for HD, the only price difference would be on the lease price for the box. Of course, you may need to call Verizon to have them turn on your national HD channels (sometimes they don't do that with SD customers).
4) It'll grandfather you in. It seems that Verizon likes to institute pricing changes with grandfathering clauses - e.g. my brother is paying $13/month for his HD DVR (I would be too, except that I got the media manager DVR, the price of which hasn't changed since I signed up). If Verizon starts up an extra pricing tier for HD, or if they raise the price of their HD box, it's likely that, by getting it now, you would be grandfathered into the current pricing.
Once they get the multi-room feed working for HD programming, I'm seriously thinking about upgrading my SD STB to an HD STB - it'll be an extra $5/month for me, but I think it'll be worth it. |
