Can anyone please recommend, preferably freeware, a softphone that has some kind of built in answering machine. The sip I use won't let me record my own incoming voice mail message so looking for a softphone that will do the trick. |

3 edits | reply to creztor I second rickbarnett's recommendation. My medical office combined the ExpressTalk and DialDictate products from the referenced Australian company -- a few years back. We use a mix of "free" incoming SIP-URI VoIP lines (FreeDigits, StanaPhone, GizmoProject, IpKall) -- each with its own DID#, allowing for redundancy if any particular VoIP provider is down at the moment one of us calls in.
ExpressTalk is a 6-line softphone that integrates nicely with DialDictate, a product that permits recording voice dictation onto the typist's hard disk via the SIP-URI connection --- and, with a mouse and a foot pedal and earphones, the typist sees a log of incoming dictations with "call priorities" which can then be typed into our Word database: patient medical records, letters and memos, "quick notes" to other staffers or doctors, etc.
There has always been a small one-time licensing fee for each line to be used with DialDictate, but one does not have to use all six lines. As I recall, ExpressTalk is free. The "Business Edition" carries a US$27 charge, but it's worth it if you need the additional features (we don't). And we don't use the entire suite of products (such as IVR).
The incoming calls to our "free" DID#s incur no per minute charges from the VoIP providers. |
