 | What the...? My God, do people still use dial-up?? Wow. And what the hell is up with AOL? I swear if they keep this nonsense up they'll be a footnote in the internet history books. AOL either needs to be put to sleep or have its ass get merged the hell up. |

My God, do people still use dial-up?? Wow. Yeah about 1/6th of all households still use dial-up. Most because there isn't any other choice except maybe lame ass satellite. |

| reply to Some Guy Yeah, unfortunately there are some people who still have to use dial-up. The thing that really sucks for them is web pages have increased in size as broadband expands. When I was between DSL service and had to use dial-up I really noticed this difference. I pretty much had to disable images to make it bearable. |

My God, do people still use dial-up?? Wow. Some dial-up users don't rely on it exclusively. Though I have cable Internet, I maintain a dial-up account as back-up.
The dial-up provider I have is dialup.cc, the cheapest rate I've seen so far for unlimited use.
My cable Internet doesn't usually go down, though there have been times when my cable went out and I needed the Internet SO bad that I was willing to both use dial-up at the painful glacier-slow speed and lose the ability to talk.
I'm glad however that I don't need to rely on dial-up exclusively. If I did I'd get a Line 2, which would be basic + CID + Call Forward on Busy. It's for this reason that dial-up really isn't cheaper, because of the dedicated line that's needed. If you can get DSL, then you are NUTS not to get it. The slowest DSL is cheaper than dial-up + Line-2.
Cheapest DSL: DSL over Line 1: $15-$20
Dial-up: Dial-up account: $5-$10 Line-2, Basic + 1 or 2 features: $20-$30 ------------------------------------------ Total: $25-$40 |
