Anonymous : It's an SDU. An enclosure to protect the ground block and any splitters etc. Not necessary for the service to work but recommended.

How many TVs do you have connected to cable?
kremithefrog : Hahaha. And what's the box they put on the outside of the house (similar to a NID for telephone service and right by the NID and electric meter, connected all on the same ground wire)? I guess it's needed for the HSI or the digital cable. I didn't realize there was anything additional needed other than a standard splitter. Does the modem signal have to be filtered from the other cable signals?

Enough to get the couch all "covered in sweat"! He probably screwed (no pun intended) it up on purpose so he had to come back.

[Cable TV] New to Mediacom

kremithefrog : I'm new to Mediacom and pretty much around here it's not too good but everyone with cable here knows that so I'm not complaining. As a brief introduction with what I got going on, we got a cable + HSI package. The internet works about as well as it can here I reckon (had to powercycle the modem a few times the second night we got it and of course speed varies depending on time of day from 3500-7700kbps, but that's not my concern).

The installer ran some new wiring, to the pole because that line was cut, and a couple new inside wires. My girlfriend and the other girl in the house were here when the tech came and they were not comfortable with him nor him watching our TV, leaving the door open and laying covered in sweat all over our couch, but it would have been cool had he got everything right. He put a new inside cable in a spot it wasn't needed but again not a concern. On to the problem.

The cable into my/my girlfriend's room isn't right, picture is all blurry. When using on demand in the room with the receiver it messes up everytime. You play the movie or show and there is no picture and you have to stop it and go back to it. While watching it the picture will eventually start cutting in and out so bad that you have to stop it and go back to it again to make it play decent enough to watch. Pretty annoying and I don't think that's normal, right?

So we got another tech coming out Thursday, this time when I home, so of course I'm going to make sure everything works right before he goes but is there anything I should be looking for him to do? I'm pretty familiar with telephone systems but don't know much at all about cable.
