[Help Me] DIR-615: Wireless dead, LAN ports work, can't get to s

Hi all

This box stopped working for no apparent reasons recently (home wireless situation, been using various Dlinks since establishing it 5 years ago).

Front panel power and cirle-with-triangle are lit. Lan ports light wherever you plug into.

Playing around, it worked without doing anything as a (hard-wired) LAN extender to my normally working DIR 635 (ethernet cable from a 635 LAN port to a 615 LAN port).

No combintaion of cabling connections or URL's (tried the usual 192.168.0.1, as well as the same with :88 at the end, the latter hint from the Dlink website I think) allows me to connect into the setup utility, to see if any of the wireless settings have gone wierd, to explain this problem. The network link indicator shows Ethernet cable signal going to the 615, but nothing ever coming back.

Netstumbler sees the wireless in the 615 - but it's at -90db signal, drops in and out - and the distance between the 615 and this laptop is only 6 inches.

My Dell wireless utility also sees it - same vv low signal, shows SSID as "wireless" (as does Netstumbler, but that's not the SSID name I used), shows it's WEP encrypted and can see B and G standards.

Before I open the box to see if there's anything obvious (I'm hoping for a large red button that says "fix problems here, push button" .... ) can anyone offer ideas as to what's happened, and whether there is any other way to access the controls / internals / setup enough to find out what's happened? I can live with the box being just a (cabled) LAN extender I suppose, but I'm curious as to why the wirless went / is dead.

best wishes,

DWP

PS: Was purchased while I lived in the USA, now living in Australia, local Dlink won't look at and costs and hassle to send it back to USA (and find the receipt!) make it not worth it.
