T_Flight : Rain and Moisture has not affected my conenction. I am a heavy user, and have used the service during a snowstorm where we got 3 inches in 2 hours...the big flake wet snow kind where you can't see your next door neighbors porch light.

I have used it during intense T-Storms where it was raining cats and dog so hard you could not see 1000 feet out. It was thundering and lightning heaviliy. It did finally go off when the electricity went out, but that was not affecting the signal...it just didn;t have any electricity to powe rit anymore.

Irt is currently extremely humid here. The visibility is 3 miles and sometimes less in thick haze. Normally I can see the Tower clearly at 2.6 miles away, but I can only faintly detect it's flashing lights right now.

In all of the above examples speedtests did not show any decrease, and during the T_Storm I was flying online where speed must be maintained at the level I had set in the simulation or it will kick you from the server.

I have not experienced any issues at all with my service except for one time my software went funky and I had to unistall and reinstall it. Another time I lost a connection for a short period, but a disconnect and reconnect quickly cured that. One thing to note is that my Tower is very HOT, and I'm fairly close to it. I get very high speeds.

Probably ther best test I have done with the service is flying my Combat Flight sims online. Nothing will test a connection harder than the sim I fly. If the connection gets weird at all it will drop you from the server. To date, I have not had any issues with being dropped at all. Speedtests are a good indicator, but real world is the best indicator.

Jim_in_VA : 3G fixed wireless is primarily geared toward business/commercial applications as far I know, with Accel Networks being the largest player. They are MVNO's (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) that piggyback off of the major telcos like Sprint, Verizon, etc. They are used mainly for point of purchase sales at retail locations that have no terrestrial connections available. Although they have a SLA with customers and guaranteed up time, unlimited data, it is almost twice the cost of a cellco plan. Coverage is dependent on the carrier towers in your area. That is what I know. I could be wrong, someone will correct me if I am.
--
* evdotips.blogspot.com *

Jack_in_VA :
said by atd5001 :

Hi All,

I have a couple questions here. First, it has been raining here in PA quite a bit in the last few weeks. On Sunday we have a severe storm with losts of heavy rain, high winds, etc. After the storm my connection pretty much crapped out completly. I have a Sprint Yagi antenna on the roof and about 20ft of cable running into the house to a Novatel U727 which is plugged into an MBR1000 router. So I checked out the antenna on the roof, everything seems fine there. No sign of damage, same for the cabling, the modem, and the router. I took the modem out of the router and plugged it directly into my laptop and walked down the road a few hundred yards towards the tower to where I can get a signal without the need for an external antenna. I was able to get a signal and connect with no issue. I went back to the house and plugged my modem back into the antenna, but still had it directly in the laptop and I got no signal. For reference, before the storm I would get about a 900kbs download and 300kbs upload. The connection would sit around -82dBm. Anyone have any idea what gives? Is there a way to isolate the problem? All of my equipment is less than 2 months old.

Off topic, does anyone know anything about 3G fixed wireless? This SMBB just isn't working out that great for me.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
atd5000

You better check your coax connectors for moisture. Unless you have them waterproofed the coax will soak up water like a sponge. IMO your problem is your equipment and not the tower given you can plug the modem in and it works when you get close enough to pick up the signal. It's rare that the tower is at fault.

netwire : This happens to me when it rains heavily, but it clears up once most of the moisture from the rain is gone. If your signal returns to you when you walk closer to the tower I would think that it's some sort issue with the transmitter on the tower.
--
World of Warcraft - My anti-drug.
