The price cut for the Xbox 360 model with the 20 gigabyte hard drive will come before the video game industry's biggest trade show, E3, taking place in Los Angeles on July 15-17, the report said. Rumors of the Xbox price cut swirled on popular gaming blogs Joystiq and Kotaku last week. The two sites received snapshots of Kmart and Radio Shack flyers advertising the $299 price. A Microsoft spokeswoman declined to comment on the report. Microsoft last cut the price of the Xbox Pro in August, from $399 to $349, prior to the release of "Halo 3" the following month. A cut to $299 would make the Xbox 360 Pro $100 less than one of the console's major rivals, Sony Corp's PlayStation 3 with a 40 gigabyte hard drive. Microsoft is locked in a three-way competition with Nintendo's Wii and the PlayStation 3, which comes with a high-definition Blu-ray video player.

| If you look at the past ads of the ps3 price cuts, it's happening again.
If the pro is $299, you can expect the arcade to drop from $279 to something else. Or maybe even drop in existence. The elite would most likely drop as well, from $449 to $399 to match ps3.
Also, there's a rumor that a 60GB HD will replace the 20GB HD. How would that look? "yeah, we're dropping the price to $300, also a 60GB for the same price." Unless they're telling retailers that the 20GB is going away, so the retailers want to clear inventory with their own price cut.
The most likely thing is... price cut for all 3 models. Then when the new motherboards and chips start rolling into the console, we'll see the 60GB HD upgrade as well.
How about dropping the arcade, lowering the pro to $300, introducing a new one at $350 with a 60GB HD, then dropping the elite to $400. Then maybe when the 20GB ones are sold out in a few months, introduce the new chips/motherboard to the 60GB one, and make that $300. Sony did something like this with the 80GB model at $600. Once the $500 ones were sold out, cut on the $600 one. |

| I was thinking about getting a 360, but with the death of HD-DVD and the fact that 90% of the games seem to be available on PS3, I might actually get another PS3 for the living room which I can also use as a Blu-Ray player...
Definitely going to miss out on some of the X-Box exclusives, but Im not sure that a $50 drop is going to change my mind.. probably would need to be more substantial.
Im going to wait until holiday time to make a final decision.. maybe there will be a bundle to sway me.

I've seen next week's Best Buy ad, it's $299. Then look at GameStop's ads. Plus, K-mart's, Radio Shack's, etc.
This is gonna happen, no doubt about it. Chance of this being true: 100%
All that's left is Microsoft announcing it. |
