| USB DWA-142 disconnects constantly
I recently set up a new wireless network with a linksys WRT310. I originally purchased 3 PCI linksys network cards to go along with this, but the first one I installed on my computer messed things up so badly that after spending literally hours on tech support with linksys, and then Microsoft, neither of them could fix the problems and I had to re-format.
After returning those cards, I purchased some DWA-142 D-link USB wireless-N cards. These work great on my other computers, but on mine, I am having constant (and extremely frustrating) problems.
I am able to connect to my router fine, and i get a very good to excellent signal strengh all the time, but usually after about 10-15 minutes the internet dies. I am not able to do anything in IE or messenger or anything, but my connection with the routher is still fine, it never actually disconnects and the signal strength is still high. This happens all the time, and the only way I have been able to fix it is disable the wireless connection and re-enable it. This sometimes works, and sometimes the card won't even disable and I have to restart several times to get it working again.
Needless to say, this is EXTREMELY frustrating but since I don't have an option to run a network cable to this computer, I need to fix this problem. PLEASE if anyone has any suggestions, I would very much appreciate it because the very little free time I have had for the last week has been devoted to trying to fix my networking issues.
I will give some info on my setup. I am on windows XP Home, it is a brand new computer with a fresh install. I am using the latest D-link drivers for this adapter, but am not using their connection software - just windows built-in wireless tools.
Thank you in advance! | | atek01

| Wuff, don't know if this will help. I was having the exact same problem with a Dlink WDA-1320 wireless pci adapter and, as a last ditch effort, I disabled the built in wired ethernet adapter in the computer, not expecting anything positive but I haven't had a problem since! I figure that although I had nothing plugged into the ethernet, the computer was getting confused from time to time on which adapter it should be accessing for the internet. Give this a try if you can. atek01 | | jwthecrush
@bellsouth.net | Thanks atek01, your advice worked. Disabled the ethernet adapter and can now play world of warcraft using dwa-142 with dell xps | |
