The weird thing about this is I can ping giganews' server just fine, but I cannot ping or connect to news.powerusenet.com, which is my usenet provider of choice. This started on July 3rd as far as I can tell. <br><br>If I connect to any external network (such as my linux shell), I can ping powerusenet just fine. I just emailed powerusenet's support to see if they see anything on their end, but right now I'm suspecting it's Mediacom. ]]></description>

I did notice that now, like B_W's experience, using their "Accelerator" software does NOT produce a connection, giving the log "Exception creating server connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond."<br><br>I think the Accelerator issue has to be on Giganew's end now, as pings and regular connections now work fine. BTW using Stunnel for SSL, as opposed to the Accelerator, also produces a connection now, unlike before.<br><br>Now I gotta grab some burgers & beer, happy 4th to all!!]]></description>

Those Mediacom folks with Giganews, try downloading and using the Accelerator (be sure to set up your newsreader correctly--point to localhost:119 and disable any native SSL in the reader), and let us know if this is the "still odd" fix.  Of course, still doesn't explain why no ping .]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1084722"><b>Sveakul</b></A> : I had 3 different support people at Giganews looking at this, and they concluded there was nothing in their network that was causing the problem--I know that's often a "standard reply", but Giganews is pretty good, they have gone the distance before when I had issues.  They also mentioned that several other Mediacom subscribers had reported the same thing to them.  I'm at work now or I'd post a reverse traceroute.  A real puzzle.  It started within the last 2 days, after the first day it was OK the next morning, then began again yesterday PM.  I'll see what happens tonight.  Thank you all for your replies.]]></description>
