They're rebuilding the fan plant for the train tunnel there, so we just set up camp on the roof of the building.

Long Island City vs Greenpoint. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,20741375 KCrimson : They moved it this year 10 blocks further south, with the southern tip of the display corresponding to approximately E. 10th St. The display was originally centered south of the bridges, giving the Brooklyn Hts. promenade a perfect view, now its one of the peripheral views.
Edit: I was unaware until this morning that Macy's added a fireworks barge back near the South Street Seaport - making the Heights Promenade a prime viewing location once again. Thanks to PCinTech for having me double-check.

The former location centered about lower Manhattan was much more convenient for much of Brooklyn's residents, including myself.

In Greenpoint you are right in the middle of it all, with NYC in the background. personally, I don't think your GF will mind a rougher spot for a better view - unless she's an out of towner.

one tip for you;
when the fireworks end, the cops form lines around the subways and moderate how many they let go underground, so it can take a good half hour just to get down to the subway. so take your friends to a nice bar or restaurant in the area to wait out the crowds leaving, and then be on your way.
Thats where I live lol, so subway is not a problem for me, as long as the people dont stack in front of my house which is near the subway entrance.

I'm just wondering which street to use by the water since you can go on Huron, India or Java.

But then would it be nice enough to take a gf to?
I mean if you compare LIC to GreenPoint, LIC is much nicer and cleanER.
