I have done so. It is a very interesting read. I'll probably get more out of it when I re-read it today as it's not 3am. Your website presents a wealth of knowledge, much of which I believe I will use. I'm looking into the broadcast flag but I'm not sure exactly what my router supports. It can be somewhat temperamental when assigning an address to the Vista box.

There is only Windows WiFi manager on the XP machine.

This small network has been setup for many years. This computer has been connected via wireless since Feb '07 when I built the Vista box.

Ah changes. I did seem to have a router hic-up a few nights ago. Probably brought on by some laptop connect issues I was "fixing". I thought everything was back to normal. Both wireless machines are connecting to the network, but slowly. Until I started messing with the laptop connectivity, I hadn't noticed any problems.

The XP machine doesn't really do much but these days but I did recently put SP3 on there.

Thanks for you thoughts, I'll check out NetStumbler and, very likely move to another channel. With everyone on 11, there are plenty of others to choose from.

Instead of reading signal strength from the Linksys (or Windows - which?) WiFi manager, how about you get NetStumbler, and objectively measure signal strength and some approximation of signal to noise ratio. And see what neighbours you may be sharing the channel with.

Make sure that you are running just one WiFi manager - pick one, and un install any others. Do this with great care.
