SB5101 Videotron and RadioActif switch

Hi,

I purchased my Motorola SB5101 from Videotron. My contract with them ended and I am in the process of switching to RadioActf.

I just got a call from RadioActif saying they are in the process of reconfiguring my modem to work with RadioActif and that once they do, I will never be able to go back to Videtron with that modem. They wanted to make sure that was ok..

Is this a technical limitation or just Videotron being Videotron ?

J

no... this is radioactif that don't know what they talk about. They will only ask for an inventory switch.

Yes, diskace is right. NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.
Go with EBox! I am going with them for the unlimited cable internet very soon! Cant wait, all I hear is good things about them!

Hehe, no needs to put that in bold

I am glad you are going to switch with Electronicbox.

RA is providing cable access with exact same specs at exact same price as Ebox (however, peering with Ebox is likely be better than RA).

I am in favour of competition, but if the bottom line is the same, I'd rather give my business to a regular contributor in this forum and an ISP that is known for long time to provide good service. Is there something that I missed? Why would anyone choose RA over Ebox for cable access?

I agree, their site isn't even bilingual

I couldn't seen an option for a cheaper package on EBox. I don't need unlimited anything. I just want decent bandwidth at a decent price with no contract. I very rarely download anything other then html and updates to my Linux box.

RadioActif offered that.. But if they end up sucking, I'm not locked in.

Okay, fair enough

I know that Ebox had a cheaper package (that was capped at 30Gb) when they began reselling videotron cable. I would guess that they don't (officially?) offer it anymore because people are mostly interested in unlimited access.

My reason for switching from Videotron had nothing to do with caps. Without a contract, or any other services, Videotron were outrageously expensive. I think I was paying $65 for 7mb..

We don't have a land line. We just have two Blackberries. So I was really looking for a cheap cable line..

If you knew what you were talking about you'd know Ebox resells 3men@works just like RA, so we're talking about the same network.

Pretty bold statement, have you used RA before? Just because an ISP is not a regular contributor to DSLR doesn't mean that they're no good. In fact I'm not a big fan of getting help via DSLR, you either have a proper ticketing/support system in place or you don't.

I signed up with RA last week, first they took my order very professionally and it was done in about 5 mins. Then they followed up to tell me that I wouldn't be able to use the modem on Videotron, I told them it wasn't a problem because I bought it from the states anyway.

BTW RA does not charge you to register your modem with Videotron where Ebox charges $5.

It's sad when a provider like Ebox resorts to hijacking a thread like this one to spam.

To the OP, I'll say you shouldn't worry about not being able to use it on Videotron because you won't need to anyway. RA is a very good ISP, I'm getting connected on the 8th of july, so far I'm impressed by their professionalism.

I doubt Videotron will take the modem back on their network after the "inventory switch". The Videotron reps will attempt to send him a new modem which is included in the service free of charge (or so they want you to believe but they still charge you 2 months in advance).

Jpabboud, having the old 3men@work senior tech working for ebox now no wonder why 3men is redirecting customers here (that was your case btw when you tried to bypass). Because we take care of them correctly. Discussion closed for me.

P.S. schlouf is right. An isp that is contributing on dslr (ebox or any others) should be recognize to care about their users. Most of us (isp owner) that are on dslr take the time to read and answer users questions.

I have to agree with you here. Having a presence in DSLR (Or any other forums such as CanadianISP.ca) shows you're human, grounded and really close to your customers and potential customers.

And having a contact with the an ISP's top management really makes me want to be with them.

DSLR is one of many many sites on the net, mots of the business owners here are just riding on the waive and trying to spam the forums to get new customers.

I have nothing against them posting on here, what I'm against is the indirect spamming going on. If you want to get closer to your clients, get your own forum and post all the stuff you want there why should it specifically be on DSLR?

This kind of attitude will get you nowhere on this forum pal. Isp owner are here because they are passionated by their business/job just like business owner are doing networking in chamber of commerce. It has nothing to do with indirect spamming.

So 3men@work is voluntarily favouring some of their resellers? This is an irresponsible conduct and very unprofessional. I'd like to hear what RA's reaction would be if they heard that 3men@work is referring clients directly to EBox.

I think having an insider at 3men working for you is a conflict of interest, how will I know that you will not be doing something to my cable internet service in revenge for going with RA instead of your company.

I will be communicating with both RA and 3men regarding this matter.

What you said is ridiculous! What do you say about Teksavvy's success? Their site doesn't include a forum but here, they were very close to their customers in »Canadian Broadband and then got their own forum.

Rocky, TSI Dave... are all helping their customers.

VelcomMatt and VelcomJoe all helped me when I had a problem. And I private msg them if I have a request instead of calling.

I've seen a lot of time where diskace helped his customers on this forum.

All in all, DSLR is like a broadband community centre.

Can you tell me what you're doing on a thread with the title "Videotron and RadioActif switch"? If you really wanted to help and stay neutral you'd say something like "I believe they're mistaken for x reasons" but to say "they don't know what they're talking about" is totally not appropriate. Furthermore you have people under you recommending Ebox, seems very suspicious to me.

Do business the right way, why should you be bashing an other ISP ?

I'm currently with TSI for an other month and I haven't been impressed by the support outside DSLR. They never followed up with me and constantly had to bump the ticket to get an answer.

If you're going to provide support on a third party broadband site, at least get your own ticket/support system running correctly. I shouldn't have to post on DSLR to get an answer to my questions.

Helping and.... marketing their business. Only normal I know but it paid off for them, they have DSLR and their inactive mods to thank for that.
