IM was a huge, almost immediate hit when it was first introduced. Now it's moved to phones. I can see the appeal of txting--- You can txt someone without other people knowing you're "on the phone" etc....
IMHO txting should be free or very near so as part of the phone service. Also I see no reason why txting shouldn't move into the VOIP phone service as well.

Alphanumeric pager market died because (a) the device was too expensive to be so limited and (b) that's ALL you could do, is page someone a message. Those two-way pagers were a fashion statement introduced by rap celebrities on BET.
Cell phone is different because you can send a text to someone saying, "call me", and get a call right away. |

It was lame, but it worked. Probably paid 49.95 a month for the service now that I think of it.

Two-ways are dead out here. You can find them for sale, but activating them is another story. There's just too much competition out there.
I know devices like the Mylo and other "keyboard centric" devices are still around...but if a person had a choice between a Mylo and the Wing/Ocean/Vu/etc, the carrier devices will win out. |
