Maxsync

With regard to Fast Access Extreme 3.0 in the Bellsouth SE(South Fl)area...using a Netopia 2210-02-1006 in the bridged mode feeding into a router that provides PPPoE, should I be getting Maxsync, and if so, how do I confirm it..and does it really do anything special?

Thanks

It doesn't matter what CPE you use or have. It is a DSLAM/Provisioning thing

Xtreme 3.0 - Without MaxSync - 3552/384

Xtreme 3.0 - With MaxSync - 8128/512
I have a Business DSL Plus line not on MaxSync and the synch-rate is 3552/384 and it gets about 3048/323. While using the login credentials from that account at home on my line with MaxSync at a synch-rate of 8128/512 it gets 3130/383.

So as not to disturb your configuration you could connect your 2210-02-1006 directly to your computer and assign the computer an IP address from the range of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and login to the 2210-02-1006 at 192.168.1.254 and look at the DSL Statistics page to check the synch-rate. If it is significantly above 3552/384 then you are on MaxSync. If it is around 3552/384 or lower then you probably aren't on MaxSync.

You could also just run a Speakeasy speed test and look at the upstream speed. If it is closer to 384 then it is to 320 then your on MaxSync.

Thanks for your reply..

These are the results of 2 tests I just did.

Speedtest..above..

Speakeasy..Atlanta..below

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3053 kbps (381.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 326 kbps (40.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Would a call to tech support help, or is this where it's at?

I'm considering upping to 6.0, but wonder if I will get the full speed...less overhead..

Looks like you're on 3 meg sync with that upstream speed. Unless you want 8 extra kbytes of upload speed, it's not worth the trouble of calling to tech. support to put your line on max sync which can create problems if your line is lengthy or has other problems.

Those speeds look fine for 3 meg.

Speed tests are not synch rates. You need to pull your synch rate to see if you are on MaxSync and get an idea whether or not your line may be a good candidate for 6Mb.

No need to call tech support. Your line is doing great for Xtreme 3.0 service.

Post up your DSL Statistics page before you upgrade and people can look at them and tell you if it would be a good idea or not. It's a big jump from 3552Kbps to 8128Kbps and everything needs to be in good shape to receive stable service.

If they look a little iffy then pull them from the "Test Jack" at the NID or INI to see if they improve. If they do improve enough to justify upgrading to Xtreme 6.0 then you can setup a Homerun. Your stats wont be any better than they will be at the "Test Jack" without AT&T Southeast doing some work, within reason, and they very well may be as good as they are going to get.

How do I check modem statistics, synch rates & speeds at the NID? (Residential Housing)

How do I check modem statistics, synch rates & speeds at the INI? (Residential Apartment)

You can check here Upgrade My FastAccess Service to see if you are able to upgrade to Xtreme 6.0 service.

Just because it says you can upgrade doesn't mean it would be a good idea to.

Living in a high-rise and having the developer installed NID in the kitchen, makes it impossible to check, as it also makes it impossible to run CAT5 to any location. It took a few years before it was possible to reliably set up wireless throughout.

The site for qualification simply tells me to order away, although it may not be possible to achieve. I do have a dry loop, but this should not affect the line. I know we probably go through a SLC96 and I remember when I originally signed up in 2000 when they had SLC90, since the cards were shared and sometimes got noisy, they had to move my DSL to another card, and I always had to remind them to do the same at the C.O. end.
Things may be different now.

If my only risk would be $5.00 additional for a month's try out, I suppose I should go ahead and try it.

Motorola 2210-02-1006 - Xtreme 3.0 - DSL Statistics..
What does your modem's DSL Statistics page look like?

Does your developer installed NID look like this one below or is it something totally different that doesn't have a "Test Jack". How does someone troubleshoot their problems without a "Test Jack"? At a house with a Station Protector you call up the phone company and get a NID installed to replace the Station Protector, but what does a person do that lives in an apartment?

The only way to know absolutely for sure if your line can handle Xtreme 6.0 is to upgrade to it. If if works great then you are A OK. If it doesn't work great then you can see if you can make improvements to your conditions and if this is not possible then you can downgrade your service back to Xtreme.
