| Phone Number Transfer According to my account, AT&T approved my number transfer on June 30. I tried to make a call out on Vonage and it worked with my transferred number showing up on the caller ID. When I try to call in on Vonage, the phones do not ring and the V-portal display does not show an incoming call. While using AT&T everything works as normal. I am assuming that my number transfer is not complete. How long does it take? The Vonage web site says 10 business days. | |

| Re: Phone Number Transfer First, I assume you are transferring your number from AT&T to Vonage?
When the transfer is complete your AT&T line should be disconnected. Also, a call out from Vonage to somewhere else is not a good test as that should work no matter what. It will show your transferred number on the caller id as that is your internal vonage number as well.

| Re: Phone Number Transfer I was looking into Vonage vs ATT CallVantage and decided to go with Vonage. I called and asked about porting my number, which the Vonage signup web site said Vonage couldn't port. The rep said that my number can be moved (from BellSouth) by simply calling BellSouth and asking them to release my number after I had established service with Vonage. I was wondering whether the rep was simply telling me what I wanted to hear, or whether I would, in fact, be able to move my number. Is this a hit or miss proposition? Is BellSouth required to release my number if I ask? Given some of the stuff I've read on this forum it's not at all clear that it is really as easy as the rep made it out to be. | |

| The same thing happened to me when I was switching from Verizon to Vonage, it took about 10 days for the port to go through(including weekends). There is a port progress thing in the account page on Vonages website, so look there and see what it says. As soon as you login to Vonage's website, there should be something on the right that says "Existing Phone Number Transfer" click that link and see what it says. When it said "Completed LNP Transfer," that was when my line was activated. | |

| dgroover: Wiat until the status is Completed LNP Transfer. Should work for inbound and outbound calls. (and sometimes there is a delay there)
OnToVoIP: If it shows that number portability is not available for your number then it cant be ported at all. Call your current phone provider wont help (as Vonage doesnt have a CLEC that covers the rate center where your number belongs)

| I ported over from AT&T 06/29, they put the the request in the same day and AT&T approved it 06/30. The virtual number was working immediately. It forwards to my real number. Received adapter on 07/02, plugged it in and as of 07/02 my number was working for both incoming and out going calls. So far, I am loving vonage. The customization options are unbelievable! The price is even much beer too. I even did a test with my home alarm, and that works too. -- So Much trouble in the world...Bob Marley | |
