First, I assume you are transferring your number from AT&T to Vonage?
When the transfer is complete your AT&T line should be disconnected. Also, a call out from Vonage to somewhere else is not a good test as that should work no matter what. It will show your transferred number on the caller id as that is your internal vonage number as well. |

| I was looking into Vonage vs ATT CallVantage and decided to go with Vonage. I called and asked about porting my number, which the Vonage signup web site said Vonage couldn't port. The rep said that my number can be moved (from BellSouth) by simply calling BellSouth and asking them to release my number after I had established service with Vonage. I was wondering whether the rep was simply telling me what I wanted to hear, or whether I would, in fact, be able to move my number. Is this a hit or miss proposition? Is BellSouth required to release my number if I ask? Given some of the stuff I've read on this forum it's not at all clear that it is really as easy as the rep made it out to be. |
