If the music industry dies, so what?

Music was around long before a music "industry" and will still be around without one. But of course it won't die, it will adapt. People are getting displaced doing what they love to do in many industries. We're just in the period where they are tying to hang on to what they had. What really hurts the music (not the industry) is American Idol and corporate radio. Garbage.
