Putting my money where my mouth is... (EB vs. TS)

Just thinking out loud.

Currently I'm a very happy customer with Electronic Box, I have nothing but good experiences with them. However with the recent fiasco with Bell I find myself wanting to switch to Teksavvy. Simply because they are doing much to "fight the good fight" and I believe the easiest way to support them is to purchase their services.

What i want to know is, has Electronic Box done anything to support Teksavvy? Are they fighting Bell? Have they done anything protect my rights? I'd like to know, and as a responsible consumer I believe I should be supporting the right kind of businesses.

Ebox is against the throttle from the beginning.

I was in contact with jose verner and many medias to fight the issue and tried to have some support from our partners.

Thanks for the article (copy of a Montreal Gazette article from April 2nd).

What has been done since? What action has EB taken against Bell?

I understand that options may be limited, but simply being "opposed" to Bell throttling isn't enough.

like i said, we are in contact with jose verner minister to resolve the issue. We have contacted crtc and i talked a bit with TS asking for update on their side with CAIP.

And Jose Verner is supposed to care because?

Jose Verner, the same minister that helped table DMCA style legislation:

Something tells me that she is not on "our side".

Actions speak louder than words and talk is cheap.

Why should electronicbox complain about throttling? It decreases bandwidth use and brings new business in the form of cable subscribers. Can you ask for any better?

Why don't you signup for Ebox cable instead? This way you're ensuring that Bell is not getting a penny in infrastructure fees.

Replace Ebox with any ISP out there... I think you need to vote with your wallet and go with a provider that doesn't use Bell... Ebox cable or Radioatif cable for example.

Its not about simply avoiding Bell.

Its about speaking out and supporting others that speak out as well.

Sure, I could switch to EB cable service (I would have to get cable run to my condo) but I would still be paying a company that is apathetic towards protecting my rights.

Hi Atticka, rest assured that we are totally against the throttle. Jose Verner is in charge of the CRTC indirectly so we believed that was very important to get a hold on her. Unfortunately ebox is too small to make waves. That is a problem now. I was very shocked by some people reaction upper in the chain when i tried to let know everyone as much as possible on this issue. Most of them where happy about it...now try to fight from that

anonymous_: cable is only good in the mtl area with ebox. We have a lot of customers in Ontario and in outside regions such as me that can't even have cable @home.

I sincerely think that every ISP is doing what they can to fight against the throttle. EBox doesn't look to be a big company, so are many DSL resellers.

While TSI is doing a extremely good job at fighting Bell, I guess they have more employees than EBox, therefore, they have the resources to be the main fighting boat in that war.

Anyway, that fight should not be a 'every ISP fight on their side'. It is a battle that each ISP should give any time they can according to their resources as an united force (CAIP). Divided they will fail, while being united, they will have a lot more chances to win.

Look at the general "net neutrality" issue.

The big ISPs are the one who seem to want DPI/throttling etc.

It is the small ISPs that are fighting it.

Why ? Because small ISPs are lead be people who inderstant the internet.

Large ISPs are leav by powerpoint-driven management who don't understand the internet and believe all the new fads that show that DPI equipment can increase revenus.

The deed is done, I have placed my order with Teksavvy.

Hopefully the few extra dollars in Teksavvy's pocket will help with their fight against Bell.

I just want to stress that Electronic Box has to be one of the best service providers that I've had the pleasure of being a customer. This is by no means a mark against their people or product.

Perhaps this will send a message "higher up the chain" at Electronic Box. Customers do care and will speak with what counts most, our money.

diskace is the owner of the company IIRC. in the end you are free to do what you want to do but remember that for these small ISPs, the presidents/owners of these ISPs are active members of this board and are very aware of the issue.

That's fine, and I'm simply raising the point that being aware of the issue isn't enough for me.

I'm a concerned customer and I wanted to know what was being done, if anything.

Ultimately I have to do what I think is right.

If only Sympatico customers could do the same and switch ISPs whenever Sympatico imposes a bad service policy.

There are ISPs out that who have not done aything about this issue. They deserve to lose customers more than ebox which at least spoken out against it and made contacts with french media and politicians early on.

jfmezei_, thank you. The main problem is that even if ebox was very upset with that issue, the companies we are doing business with are not reacting the same way we did. This is an online forum so i can't talk too much but trust me that ebox is really against this and every possible steps were taken in the situation we are.

hmmmm

@videotron.ca
Would Ebox be non-existant today if you filed a complaint with the CRTC like Acanac did? I doubt it.

You did have a option you know...

I am sorry but ebox went off is butt on that. If you are looking at the timeline we were in the first group to react. I did the job to contact many isp rep to see what they believe. I contact the press, i did not waited for them to call. I contact some people at the minister. I wrote emails and letters to some 'believed' key people.

Up to a point you are right. I though that this was david vs goliath. Nobody really cared.

I do recall the beginning of it and recall what you stated above. No one can rob you of that.

But zero involvement with the CRTC? A small letter or even a comment in the comment area on behalf of Ebox would have been decent.

It seems even the small Association of Quebec internet providers made an effort, as seen on the crtc web page.

I'm just disappointed. Your bosses or whoever they are can go to hell. You shoulda stuck up for whats right and push it more.

All I gotta say really.
