| Who's got the better fireworks?
Of course the mall has the best but I'm through fighting the crowds. Been there, done that. (Did the boat version once - that was fun.)
But what are the other good ones? Rockville? Gaithersburg? The newspaper says that Montgomery County is providing $54K to each of Kensington and Germantown. (*) Would be nice if I could find out what every local fireworks show is costing. The only other one listed is Poolesville ($15K).
The Post has a graphic of the largest shell used by each show (although curiously Rockville is missing).

Anyway, Rockville has a huge campus from which to watch so it should be easy to find parking and a viewing spot. Gaithersburg has the fairgrounds so again, plenty of parking and viewing. Has anyone been to those two? Or one of the official MoCo shows?
Don't mean to make this only about MoCo. (Feel free to discuss others.) I'm close to Northern Va too - I see McLean has fireworks and I'd be willing to go there. The post has a map of all the shows in the metro area:

* No, I do not support spending $108K of taxpayer money for fireworks when we have a deficit of roughly $200M. |

| The mall in DC is the grand daddy of them all with all the reverberations of the explosions bouncing around the buildings, but a total PITA to deal with the crowd and the traffic.
I've been to Fairfax City's display and it is pretty good. Gave it up when I moved out of the city and couldn't walk to the high school and it has become a huge display since then. They offer shuttle bus service from locations around the perimeter of the city.
I think Annapolis or Baltimore would be real interesting if you want to take pictures.
I've pretty much given up on all of the large displays because I hate dealing with the crowds.
From the weather report, it looks like it is going to rain on everybody's parade though. -- Team Discovery |

| The family voted to stay home and watch the kids down the street do their annual ritual of illegally setting off roman candles and bottle rockets.
Seems pretty silly to have Pennsylvanians go to WVa to buy their illegal fireworks and the Marylanders go up to Breezewood PA for their illegal fireworks and the NJers go to North East, MD for their illegal fireworks. |

| reply to DonLibes We stayed home this year, and managed to not burn our fingers off.
I don't know where my neighbor goes to buy his illegal fireworks, but dammit if they didn't put on a great show last night.
We did the sparklers and fountains in the driveway for the kids. Guy across the street had some mortars that honestly made me a little nervous "Thooooomp! Thooooomp!"
For the Fairfax County folks, Beacon Hill is supposed to give you a good view of the fireworks at both Ft. Belvoir and Lee District Park. -- eSteve

| We ended up staying at home with our Breezewood, PA fireworks .
I saw the ones on tv as well and I really liked the Boston show. Them "Saturn" looking bursts were some of favorite. |
