Anyone knows how to get the top one replaced by the bottom one (with a purple section)? |

| reply to Bicephale Lol, stealing my photos...
If you're a Sympatico customer, you can get one installed for free IF you're having DSL problems that requires one to be installed, and have a tech come out that knows what he's doing and has one.
You can also get one installed if you're with a 3rd party provider, if you're willing to pay the $100 inside wire repair charge.
In both cases, you will probably need to already have a NID installed, otherwise an indoor POTS splitter will probably be used instead. These line protectors can be installed into older NIDs with a few simple modifications. |

| Hi AndrewsFM,
Yeah! The definition was good and it's not like i tried to hide it, after all... Your photographs were posted just right when i needed it most: i only expected the telephone worker to change missing fuses when i 1st called Bell; i thought i was quite lucky to get this brand new piece of HardWare installed in place of their old bakelite connector box but now that i look at it closer it seems the protector module is on my side for the most part... Anyway, i've bought twisted cabling and a pair of RJ-11 outlet boxes to implement my own way of centralized filtering somewhat later. |

| reply to Bicephale So you had a new style NID with a line kit with all orange switches just recently installed?
The part with the screw head is on the Bell side, and the switches and test jack will be on your side.
You can try asking, but unless the guy is a DSL tech, he's probably not familiar with or even has a module with the dedicated POTS splitter in his truck. |

| Hi again,
I'll take photographs of my own, eventually, but i'd swear it's the very same item! At 1st he was on the walkside when i told him he might want to bring some NID with him since i had DSL. He prefered to climb up the stairs simply to conclude that it didn't make much sense to replace these old fuses while having the proper HardWare handy. Well, almost proper since, as i found out, he didn't carry the orange (3)/purple (1) module in his official vehicule: he was qualified as a voice-grade technician only, he said. We talked for about half an hour and maybe even fourty-five minutes so you can imagine i tried everything to get the DSL protector/POTS-Splitter module installed. He called one of his collegues asking about this "special" item but it seems none of them had one and only his friend actually seen one, a long time ago... Unless there's a place where i can go to buy one of these modules i doubt i'll ever have one installed since Bell did come to my home, as i requested, and they went beyond their obligation by taking the DSL matter into account (he provided some clearance between their demarcation box and the electrical panel over which he was going to install it, directly on the main power conductors).
I guess he found me persuasive when i told him about "noise" curves going wild at cooking hours... I'd bet things would have been different if he had dealt, say, with my old mother... |

| reply to Bicephale I had one of these installed at a client's new residence, very nice.
If the box is broken you can remove it, its a few clips just tung it and it will come off.
If you want to run a wire directly to your modem just put two wires in (no need to strip them) the plastic "seat" then push it down it will crimp into the wire. |

| Hi TilHasBB,
Ha yes, now that you mention it he told me about the punch-through connectors and insisted a few times that i mustn't bother to remove insulation!
How convenient!!!
