TK, Stop trying to use logic here with these people, it doesn't apply. They don't think that any business should make a profit, they don't think that these profits should be able to spent as they see fit - regardless of the arts mandate which is something that happens nationwide on all new structures with a certain price tag. They don't get it.
They believe because they purchase a service that it's a democracy how the profits are to be spent. I suppose, however, if that's how they want it, then maybe we should all be able to tell private people how to spend their earnings too. Maybe people shouldn't spend so much money on worthless cell phones, or eating out. Maybe they shouldn't waste it on frivolous things like vacations and trips. Maybe they should spend it on furthering their education and getting better jobs so they don't worry as much about spending their money they way they see fit.
When I saw this thread and before I entered it, I KNEW it would be this tone, OR, was waiting for people to ask if they were getting the HD feed from DirecTV. |

Also, a company operating in a free, open, competitive market making unlimited profit is entirely different from one that operates essentially as a monopoly with government blessing.
Edit: I have no problem with anyone making an HONEST profit, but so much profit these days is DISHONEST, earned through lying and market manipulation/control. |

| Holy crap! Your service has problems.. either 1) call for a service call and get it handled 2) stop buying from a company that is allegedly ripping you off.
I don't know what's worse.. a company that doesn't produce what they sell, as some people claim, or those that continue to do business with them no matter WHAT the reason. |

This company, that provides luxury services, chooses to keep their profits at a certain level. I suppose that when their rates, which are largely dictated by the price they pay for the services they resell, should just start taking a loss so you don't pay more?
Let me explain reality - when prices of services go up to providers, they raise them to the consumer. It's that simple. Some companies chose to take a hit and not raise, Cable and other businesses, do not.
I mean... OMG.. The Comcast building has an HD screen in their HQ building - SO DO MANY OF THE LOBBIES! Big deal!
What's even worse, is that anytime comcast does anything, the SAME people come here and fester about anything they can throw on their screens. Really.. it's old. How about a constructive conversation?
Further, no one here has bothered to read the fact that it's the building's owner that put the screen up as required by law.
And your monopoly argument is so 1980s. |

Then.. what else are you doing to change it? Have you shown up to any of your local franchise meetings? How about a city planning meeting? Have you rallied your neighbors to the cause? Have you written your representative?
Have you actually sat down and WROTE a letter.. not email, but an actual pen to paper or typed and mailed letter to the local office?
I'm guessing you do not have DSL available to you? .. and if not, have you done what we did in MN? We mandated that Qwest improved service to more people in the state, even rural areas, when they wanted to get into long distance. We required better service.
You stated that you had no competition. There is nothing stopping phone from competing with cable - have you thought about going after phone using the above methods, or others, to get phone to service you and give you a choice that so many others have?
The buck doesn't stop with cable, alone. You, and so many others, have options - many just refuse to use them or say they have none.
If you pre-judge the outcome and say it will never work, for one you sound like a hana barbara character, and two, you're destined to fail and take what you get.
You will NEVER know until you try it. But, to blame cable for you having no choice it totally misplaced blame. You can't sit back and wait for everything to change on it's own in your favor.
Who gets the most done in this country while being called cooks? Activist.. I guess it takes a cook to make change as they seem to be the only group organized enough to make changes. Funny thing is, they are small groups who speak loud and cause the most conflict. There is something to be said about their actions, huh? |

Granted, in other parts of the Nation, there may be more, but 2 is pretty average for most places.
Just because you have options doesn't mean you can pronounce everything as fine and dandy for the rest of the country.

It's not about just knowing what's there. You just proved you want to bitch and not solve problems.
I outlined the way you do things in this country to cause change. However, its truly clear you don't want to see change or BE PART of what changes things.
If you, or anyone, thinks that posting disdain here on BBR is going to make change, you're wrong.
See above for the answer. You can't sit back and HOPE it will change.
The "other options" were to take part in BRINGING change.. but again, you're rather spend your time on BBR bitching like the others who think they are making change.
For once, I'd LOVE for people to post what they have done to solve the problems instead of sitting back and saying "I am so helpless"... can ANYONE state what they've done to take part in change?
Seems everytime something is done, it's by seniors.. I wonder why! Maybe they still GET IT! |

Seriously.. I meant every word I said. You can't sit back and expect change unless you get up and do something.
The only one being nasty here is you.
The way you change something in this country is to gain power in numbers. If you get people in your area to work WITH you to visit these city meetings and register your complaints as a whole, THIS is how you gain attention. You get your entire area that is experiencing these issues to show up to the meeting with the cable company there and tell them, as a group, change or you will disconnect. This gains attention.. this gets things fixed.
What is so wrong or mean spirited about this?
Seriously.. it sounds like you WANT to have something to bitch about.

Well guess what, this is a forum for all people to bring their opinions, stories, ideas, and experiences. We don't all have to agree with them. We may not all keep a civil tone about them. (at least as much as you are willing to inflect from someone elses writings )But the fact that you START by talking down to the rest of the people who would comment about this subject for various reasons may have something to do with the tone of the responses to your posts.
