I don't have TimeWarner but is it just that crappy? What should I tell my parents? It seems the TW folks think that quality is normal in the Raleigh area.
We all feel your pain, but switching has implications on the phone and Internet service. TW assigns network priority based on how many services you get. Dropping TV may well degrade their Internet and/or phone service.

The main reason I don't switch is that there is only one other broadband option where I live and the best they offer is 6/384. When TWC upgraded the OCAP boxes a couple months back, the new version of the software REMOVED the routines to automatically detect the monitor attached to the box. Now you must go into the settings menu and define the resolutions that your monitor supports.

Now, this has been a hit and miss effort for TWC cause people that bought shitty TV's (aka: low cost) didn't fully support the HDMI communication standards that told the OCAP boxes what resolutions were supported. You have to set the box up to do that - it won't do it automatically. There is a quick set up option that defaults to 1080i and 480p that is easiest. Power Box OFF and then press "guide" and "info" on set top box.
