The only glitch is if the cable box is tuned to a 720p HD channel at the time I turn the TV on. Then the video is distorted and smeared across the screen. Bringing up any type of graphics (Quick Menu, Full Menu, Info, etc..) or changing the channel fixes the video glitch. This does not happen if I turn on my TV and the box is on a 1080i or SD channel.

The box is set to output 1080i because it doesn't allow me to select Native or both 720p and 1080i simultaneously (for the appropriate channels).

I think if the box is set to output 720p it does the same glitch on 1080i channels, but not 720p channels. Something is flawed with the resolution conversion, and I hope it's fixable in a firmware update. HD locals look clearer through the QAM tuner, but sometimes logo's in the corners are slightly cut off due to overscan. My TV allows me to have no overscan at all with the HDMI input. HD looks best with no overscan, but many SD channels show their closed captioning data lines at the top of the screen. Hmmm... been using HDMI since 2004 on a 6412 and various 3412/16 DVRs. I currently have one 3416 connected via HDMI to my AV receiver acting as a switch with no problem; have an 3416 connected via HDMI through a Monoprice HDMI switch; have a 3412 connected via HDMI directly to my bedroom LCD. Total of (3) DVRs connected with HDMI to different configurations and no problem.

In previous versions, you could have the tuner tune to the same channel the other tuner was recording. Now, if you're recording 231 and watching 193 and hit 231 it does not "tune" it "swaps tuners".

If both tuners are on the same channel and you hit record, you can swap between tuners.

Now, say both tuners are on channel 203 and you hit record, change the channel to 204, then go back to 203, you're swaping tuners not changing the channel so hitting swap goes back to 204 on the other tuner.

I discovered this when I thought my dual tuner DVR was not "dual tuning".

Have had a25 for a few weeks now, have not had any issues with remote command queing. All in all, it's been a pretty good update. Resolved quite a few issues that bugged me. The top two being remote command queing and loss of DVR recording lights.

That's probably because the iGuide and OnDemand are 2 different applications running on the box. Personally, I have used the FiOS guide (of course I still cannot get FiOS myself) and have found it MUCH easier to navigate and use. It is also many times more ergonomic than Comcast's guide, with widgets and numerous other features (some of which are described in your link).

And one more thing to add, I too am suffering from the "green screen" problem. I have to powercycle the box to fix it! Nothing has fixed it. I refuse to go component, so I put up with it. But if the command queuing is unbearable, you can eliminate one cause of it by going component to eliminate the constant hand-shaking every time you switch channels or a new program starts on your current channel. Another cause is loading guide and channel mapping info, can't help that... Actually, any use of the CPU causes it. The moto processors can't multi-task, so everything is always queued, if you don't experience pauses, it's pure luck! Speed has nothing to do with it. I hate to disagree but I am. The SEARCH on Comcast's iGuide is HORRENDOUS!

Take a look at Searching on a TiVo or Verizon's IMG.

I created a Saved Search for "Little League Baseball". Well you can only enter "LITTL" and guess what came back... "Lite". What the heck is that? I had to remove the L and T so it was "LIT" and then "Little League Baseball" was shown.

Another thing... I couldn't just put "BASEB" as a Search because Comcast's search isn't smart enough to do a real keyword search.

If anyone has tried TiVo or the Verizon IMG then they know exactly what I'm talking about here.

Go try a search for yourself in the "new" iGuide. It looks better but still performs the same way. Crappy.

But again, according to Comcast... I have no idea what I'm talking about because they have the research to prove it. I hope that moron reads this.

I can't wait for it in our area. A coworker and I were just talking about how buggy the Motorola DVR is. We both have the same problems with slowness and command queuing. Sometimes we had the occasional reboots as well. He doesn't have dish because they have Howard Stern VOD.

As bad as the performance is, I'm surprised it's not a higher priority upgrade in my area. It was pushed back due to a video glitch after a VOD stream stops. Just a minor graphical glitch that goes away, but they are not rushing it since were on firmware 16.35. Now if we were on 16.20 or earlier it would be more of a priority.

Ques Commands: Not noticeable. Improved greatly.

It doesn't perform as fast as a DCT-700 but in my mind it shouldn't since a DCT-700 is about as dumb a box as you can get. The DCT3412 with A25.2 is night and day different than the prior version.

When I called CS around 6 am I was told VOD would be up at 8 am. When I got home around noon, it was indeed working. A CSR that knew exactly what I was talking about and gave me a straight answer. What is this world coming too :)

I do not see one bug (as of yet). All software is buggy to some extent so I do not expect perfection but GuideWorks just didn't start writing code yesterday either. So I have high expectations.

The J Guide is a step in the right direction but they (Comcast) really need to look at the Verizon IMG guide to see what a guide in 2008 should look like. The iGuide is so 1997 VCRish IMHO.

Don't worry about Comcast changing it to what I or many others want. I don't know what I'm talking about and they (Comcast) have the data to prove it.

The 641X & 341X have full two week program guides although it takes a while for them to fill up. Depending on your area you might be having an issue with the update process which results in you not being fully updated all the time. The older boxes and boxes without HDTV/DVR only have a one week ahead time. Two weeks is the standard for other boxes so you must have been having an issue and it now seems to be fixed with the update! :)

As for the guide update footprint I believe it is the same size but perhaps now that a full two weeks is loaded in memory it just appears to be larger?

- Search can use an on-screen keyboard (still limited to 5 characters), save searches.
- If you type in a non-existent channel number, it will tune to the next available channel.
- Pressing GUIDE while the program guide is displayed will toggle between the grid and single-channel list modes.
- VOD Preview default action is to stop, not Buy.
- DVR: When scheduling a live event, you will be asked how much time to add (must be enabled in Guide setup).
- DVR: If there is a 5 minute or less program overlap, the DVR will clip the beginning of the second recording. The text (Clipped) will appear in the scheduled recording list, next to the recording dot. (must be enabled in Guide setup).
- DVR: The Swap Tuner prompt will only show if both tuners are recording. The swap will be automatic otherwise.
- DVR: When you reach the end of a recording, it will only pause. The delete popup will show after 10-15 seconds, or immediately if you hit STOP.

- SDV Module bugfixes and official support
- DVR time bar CPU usage reworked (Better performance)

New Bugs:
- Issues with SeaChange VOD systems (Hence no widescale rollout until Seachange updates their code module)

The iGuide is designed to run on a box with a 27 Mhz Motorola 68331 processor with 8-bit 704x480 graphics, 2 MB graphics memory, and 2 MB of FLASH memory aka the DCT-2000. Verizon doesn't have that problem as their base box is much more capable, although the DCT-700 won't run it either and that is much better then the DCT-2000.

the odd thing is some HD movies will use 30% of the hard drive space when others will only use 8%

there is also an issuse when it's forced to use 1080interlaced when the show is broadcasting in 720P

due to the lack of auto switching of the resolution



i do miss my MOXI box GUI was awesome! :D

Box updates are being processed at 3:00am the day of for your area (depending on the DAC). Tivo updates are processed at the same time to Comcast DVR boxes that have Tivo enabled. Then a warm-reset is performed on the boxes at 4am to complete by 4:15am. So there could be issues with locations the day their boxes are updated between 3:00am and 4:15am.

Some boxes may display "DL" on the front or a "0". If the box doesn't turn on its possible that its trying to download the update. Boxes will auto-re-try to download the updates if it fails. Call Comcast obviously if you have issues after this time frame or for any questions.

The new version of the guide has been in the works for months now, but it is in a holding pattern. They tested it in a couple markets and it did not perform how they wanted, so they are still working on getting it perfected. No dates, no estimated release timeframe at this point.

When I was in college I lived in a TWC area with a Pioneer Digial Boxes and later the SA DVR boxes, all running Passport. Between the Pioneer and SA boxes me and 2 of my friends KILLED about 6 of those boxes in the space of 2 years.

Fun ways to KILL a Passport box:
1) Disconnect it from the Cable (Seriously) (Pioneer) (Firmware Coruption)
2) Do a series recording of Stargate (SA) (Click of Death)
3) Do a series recording of Anime Unleashed (SA) (Click of Death)
4) Sit it on top of your computer, next to the heater, and open window, in January (SA) (Cooked?)
5) Use the Favorites Channel feature (Pioneer) (Firmware Coruption)

I had the pleasure of using SA 3200 set tops with the Passport 4.3 (Build 005) this weekend on Blue Ridge Cable. It's astonishing how much better those boxes / operating system performs. You can actually channel surf in the old sense of using the channel up or down arrows. If I try to do that here the box freezes up.

Keep in mind if you push the button like that on a Passport/SA3200/2200 system, the guide and channel number goes exactly in sync with your button press. There may be a second until the video comes on, but at least you can page through reading the banner and NOTHING LOCKS UP.

When Gemstar bought out Aptiv, I hope they kept the people from Aptiv and learned a few things about programming. TiVo I34 with 1.03 Client upgrade will be in sync with A25 upgrades. That will fix many of the Crazy 8 reboot issues and also that users can’t turn off “suggested recordings”...and also some other TiVo guide issues. The next “performance” release for TiVo (1.05) is pending test in Springfield...if all goes well then 7/24 for all other DACS.
