Usually when you use something like that in a news snippet its to emphasize collusion between two parties, but Google has done the opposite here (which is never the norm when these things are mentioned). Although one does have to wonder if Google would not have jumped in if it were not in their best interests (of course, that is probably a rhetorical question).

For sure this would be in Google's best interest, but at the same time, if it can possibly help sway the end result to our benefit, what the hell. Google has a lot more clout than You, I, or many of us combined.

And what is your point? This is a companies policy not an individuals policy. The former operations president is a person and needs a job to make money you know.
