E-mail received from ViaTalk today:
Dear Valued Customer,
We will be periodically rolling out firmware updates to provisioned ViaTalk adapters between the evening of July 8th, running through the evening on July 11th. These updates will take place automatically while the adapter is not in use. No action on the part of the customer will be necessary. The purpose of this upgrade is to bring the device to its most current version of operating software, which includes bug fixes for NAT and one way audio issues. Thank you for your patience while we work to improve the level of service provided.

| I called and asked if it was the same that is on the Linksys site, that I have been trying to update to for weeks and the unit would not respond. I was told that it would be the latest version that would fixed recent problems that they have found.
Well the my adapter updated remotely, yippie!!, but the version number is the same as the last one on Linksys' website from last year that I have been trying to update to 5.1.6(LS). So where's the update that fixes recent problems found? Or are these problems that they've known about since last year and are just now addressing them?
I completely spaced the update and was going to watch when it was done and see if it makes a difference and/or fixes my problems. So since I have no idea when it was done . . . . this afternoon, calls were horrible. I hope that this was pre-update. We'll see today how calls are.
Until then . . . . |

| Hi,
This firmware update is being done as it addresses some of the issues that crop up when people are migrated to our new platform. We have seen in our testing, as well as heard feedback from users, that when all is in place on the new system, everything has been working better than ever before.

| There are different versions of the PAP2, and each will have different numbers for their firmware. I'm betting you have a PAP2T. |

Can someone with a PAP2T (not PAP2) who know they've been upgraded tell me what you've been upgraded to? Let me know and I'll see if I can get it from the LinkSys site. Or, an answer from VT would be helpful too - but my previous inquiries did not produce any specifics. -- Russell |

| It looks lie mine was skipped also. But ( as of now) it is working and I am not on the new megatron server either.
When doing network upgrades, things can take a lot longer than expected. Better to take the time and get the first ones sorted out, uncover the 20 things missed in the trial, and then push to the rest.
I personally don't really care what version my PAP2 is running or what server I am connected to. From a techie perspective it is educational but, as long as the darn thing rings when a call comes in and when I dial, it connects and I can hear the other party and the other party can hear me I am happy. Also it is important that the call terminate when I hang up, not when the server thinks we are done.

Still showing: Host Name: LinksysPAP Domain: myowndomain.com Software Version: 5.1.5(LS) Hardware Version: 0.1.5
This might reflect back to the fact that when VT originally shipped this adapter in the hectic post SunRocket days, it was virgin from the factory. It had not been configured/prepped/whatever by VT, and was treated by their system as a BYOD.
At the time I used info from the Linksys admin. manual to set it up, and somewhere along the line the second line feature started working. -- "The world is a book; those who do not travel read but a single page." -St. Augustine |

| reply to nycityny I've been trying to update to 5.13 for years, it's not worked. I've had my password since the begining and now the update tool from Linksys has finally worked, I'm on the lastest ver. from Linksys and my service is working great. Though I've had my problems with ViaTalk I'm mostly happy and think the whole service issue seems overblown. Of course, I work for the "other" phone company |

I was operating at about 90+% - acceptable for what I pay ViaTalk (getting what I'm paying for in some sense). I just hope this upgrade does not break me (I don't need flak from the wife about my "cheap" phone company) - to be honest, that's my main interest in monitoring this and wondering when I'll be upgraded. C'mon ViaTalk - a little communication (for a company in the communication business) sure would help. -- Russell |

| It took less than five minutes to go to the Linksys site and get the latest firmware for the PAP2T (5.1.6(LS)) and install it. If you do this, just be sure when you run the .exe that you're on the same subnet on as your ATA. I was on the wrong subnet - it would have been even faster if I was on the right subnet. -- Russell |

| While originally planned to be done last week, some of the updates were pushed back to ensure we had plenty of staff on hand if any issues arose. Its been pretty much seamless so far, but theres always that chance that someone has an issue so we're playing it safe.

Would it be too much trouble to fire off an e-mail to the customer when upgraded to indicate that they have been moved to a different server and to call xxx-xxx-xxxx if they experience any issues?
