It doesnt matter if Ive spoken to you or not personally... it doesnt change my opinion of what you are trying to accomplish.
2. Angelo made me fully aware of everything you said because he was on the phone with me, so my understanding is not flawed at all. He asked me to check your math. so I did and we both noticed the pattern. Granted the difference between 750 dollars and 50 dollars is large, its not worth losing your personal integrity over, or the integrity of TSI competitions in the future. Many people worked hard to make this possible including angelo and gabe and a few others. No other ISP would do this for its customers, and you are souring the experience for everyone by complaining after the fact.
3. If your motives are pure as you say... why not just suggest ways to improve instead of suggesting ways that you would come out on top. And be happy that you were in the top
4. instead of complaining about how you didnt win. You notice none of the others who were close as well are whining...
4. I heard about the server acting funny, and he was very accommodating for you. more so than I would have been had I been in his place. Angelo listened to everything that you had to say, and gave your opinions a fair chance.
5. That was not your intention, as you spent HOURS complaining to him.. I should know I was on the phone at the time with him.
6. Also rocky said there would be a minimum number of kills.. which was never announced, which would severely compromise the rankings given the turnout, and there would not have been enough people to have placed.
7. If this was such an issue why not bring it up sooner? like before it was too late perhaps?
8. You played significantly less than those people above you, and you believe it should be held against them that they played so much, and therefore died more.... whereas you barely played, therefore barely faced anyone and would magically come out on top.... please...
9. The reason why you may have interpreted my response as an attack is because I don't appreciate people ruining experiences for other people, just because it suits them. I didn't come anywhere close to winning... but I had fun and that's what counts... but you seem to have lost sight of that..

I don't think I know you. And I'm pretty sure you don't know me, since I've never spoken two words with you. Unlike my post, the tone and substance of yours *are* designed to be offensive despite your phony apology. They are full of innuendo and false accusation.

First, you did exactly what I said was not my intention: get into debates over personal rankings. I would have no problem losing to Bob. He is a great player! And he could have won this tournament on a number of measures. The question is what measure should be used and what was used? As an aside, anyone 'well qualified' to judge UT2004 skills would probably judge that the top 10 list produced does not correspond to the 10 best players in the tournament. But fortunately we don't judge FPS gaming like figure skating so it's besides the point what you or I 'thinks'. Statistics are the only objective measure we have, and if you just click 'Eff.' on the UTStatsDB for the tournament you would come closer to an accurate list.

Second, you question my motivation for writing. Leaving aside the fact this commits a logical fallacy of ad hominem, it is clear you don't have anything to say to my argument about following the rules a tournament lays out. Your 5 points start off badly since I don't as you say use logic to "say I should win". Points 1 and 5 are basically the same, and refer to what I warned about before the tournament even began when you use Kills/Deaths. Another point you leave out. Rocky replied that it would be prevented with minimums. On that very topic, I would not have even BLINKED had I been disqualified altogether for not reaching the minimums (time or frag count) in place to avoid abuse. I played 6 matches but that's not much for this long tournament. Your Points 2, 3 and 4 just don't make sense. Bob proves #4 wrong as do a thousand other players on the UT2004 stats page with high hours of play and high kills/deaths efficiency. More play does not lower your kills/deaths, it only moves you closer and closer towards the 'average' that reflects your relative fragging skill.

Third, as for my conversation with Angelo, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about. The reason I got talking to him in the first place was because the server was acting funny and dropping statistics for matches that I played in. There was no 'debate' around mathematical formulas, lol, since I don't even understand the one that was used and I only asked him what I asked in the thread. Why was Kills/Deaths not used? Later he wanted to go through the math of kills/deaths to see what the ranking would look like. You pretend I carefully engineered the devious and intricate formula of KILLS / DEATHS as if came out of thin air, when you know exactly where it came from. Rocky could have announced total frags as the measure and that would have been great. Different but great.

My preference was to discuss this without innuendo and personal attack. On second thought, there is not much to discuss. I pointed out a simple fact in an otherwise positive post, that one of the basic rules set out at the beginning wasn't followed. Obviously Teksavvy can do what it wants with the tournament including change the rules, but I won't apologize for just pointing out that competitive tournaments usually don't work that way.

Im sorry but he deserved to win, and the scores were not arbitrary and were determined by the stats program itself, and are common on many servers.

I find what u are trying to do here, like what u were trying to do in the irc very wrong, because you are not only making urself look bad, but every person who helped with the server as well as TSI itself, because you want them to go back on their published results. THe rankings were on the server, if you had qualms with them you should have said something before they were released not after.

Your logic is flawed for several reasons as to why you should win..
1. if I killed only one time and managed to avoid death by hiding Id win automatically
2. There werent enough good players to really have a decent number of winners by pure kill/death status.
3. The only reason why you are saying that the scores should be changed is the one person who beat you was a friend of mine, and I forgot to tell him to register... and he was helping me test out a theory I had.
4. With the number of hours you play, the likelihood of you dying goes up relative to the amount of opponents you face during your entire playing time
5. Why should someone who played a fraction of the time win the tournament? why not just give it to someone who played for 5 minutes then? or two minutes?

I am sorry if I have caused you offense, it is not my intent, but what you are trying to do is wrong. Angelo didnt agree with you and neither did the irc now you are trying to get sympathy here on dslr.

d0rmamu : Late reply but good game, everyone! I would also like to thank Teksavvy for setting up the tournament and Angelo for adminning the server. I had a lot of fun when I found time to play and a group on the server, even if that wasn't often. I got the chance to pick up UT2004 again and chat with a few nice people like Angelo who I've seen in the forums.

Low turnout was predictable just because UT2004 is not new or very popular any more, and it has a steep learning curve which can discourage new players. Even a TSI-wide announcement would have barely helped. What would have helped more IMO would have been some variation on Guspaz's (I think) suggestion. At least for a relatively unpopular game, reduce the window of playing time to one or two days, so that everyone can plan for it and gather on the server at the same time. This may not be necessary for mega-games like CS, COD4, TF2.

Not to end on a sour note but one last point as I look at the 'scores' posted in this thread. If there's one thing you shouldn't do when holding a competitive tournament, it's change the rules in the middle, especially without announcing it. In the tournament thread, Rocky said the rules were Deathmatch mode and Kills/Deaths statistic. This made sense too. In single matches of DM and TDM you can measure skill by Kills minus Deaths, but when many people are playing at varying times, Kills divided by Deaths is probably the best approximation if you are trying to measure fragging efficiency rather than endurance on the server. Of course every standard has its flaws and is open to abuse so that's why I asked about abuse of Kills/Deaths rule in the tournament thread. Rocky replied that some minimum frag count or activity would be used to remove abusers.

I don't want to turn this into an argument about specific rankings -- hell, if someone asked why I am even ranked #3 I couldn't tell them or justify it. Since the rule Rocky announced was overlooked or not followed and the formula used in its place was not announced, explained, or used in any major UT2004 tournament that I'm aware of in 5 years of playing.
