| 3 Struck By Lightning In Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (AP) ― Rocky Mountain National Park officials say at least three people have been struck by lightning near a remote lake but are hiking back to a trailhead.
Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says that initial reports that a fourth person may have been hit in the Tuesday afternoon strike were wrong.
Patterson says the three confirmed victims, a husband, wife and male friend from Houston, Texas, were hit at 12:20 p.m. near Mills Lake. They were with other family members at the time.
Park rangers say the lightning struck the ground so hard near them they were knocked off their feet and thrown to the ground. Two of them suffered burns to the feet and one had burns to the arm. The burns were said to be minor and they were able to walk.
Family members were able to get a cell signal and call for help. As they began to hike down Glacier Gorge Trail, rangers were hiking up.
"Initial reports were coming in that there were multiple people that were struck by lightning," Patterson said. "So obviously, when we get that type of report we respond very quickly."
Patterson encouraged hikers to check weather reports before heading out in the park.
The park is about 50 miles northwest of Denver

I feel for the 3 of them. The sky's got real dark around here and looking up north at longs peak it was real bad.Some people just don't know how bad the lighting can be up in the Mtn's.When your above tree line and your the only thing taller then that rock look out and run fast and get down.. |

Gee, so I guess if you are by yourself and get struck by lightning they don't respond as quickly?
