I am surprised as well... typically those that will be purchasing an iPhone will be getting it as soon as it comes out. The CRTC isn't all that heavy handed, and is just slightly more regulatory than the FCC. There's little competition in Canada, because the Canadian market is approaching saturation, and its 1/10th the size of the U.S. market. The thing that kills me on Canadian wireless is having to pay for long distance on a cell phone. If ANY carrier wants to break into the Canadian wireless market, deploy an IP based / VoIP wireless solution. Paying +$6/month for SAF, having to pay for LD... come on - LD is pracically free these days. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

| The foreign telecom ownership rules imposed by the Canadian government has really stopped any significant new competition in the Canadian market.
It has been recommended for years (by several groups and studies) that relaxing this restriction would enable more entrants in the mobile market.
Also, when the Canadian government allowed the sale of Fido to Rogers that eliminated any real national competition for GSM. That sale should not have been allowed to go through. |

Why. Fido and it's parent company were pretty close to going under. If the sale hadn't gone through, you'd still have the same players eventually. |
