Your first hop: 11 ms 9 ms 9 ms 10.48.53.206.velcomdsl.ca [206.53.48.10]
has a low ping, if you were in interleave, that first hop's ping will probably be in the 40s ms. |

| Cool. Now to test for throttling. I understand all dsl companies throttle? When I was with Rogers, from what I could tell, as long as there were many seeds, i could easily go into the 400kbs steadily. To me, it didn't seem like there was any throttling. Any public torrents I can test with? |

| The DSL companies don't throttle (Velcom, Teksavvy, Acanac) but Bell does. So yes, unfortunately, all the companies that uses Bell equipments are throttled.
Test by downloading this Knoppix linux distro »torrent.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/stats.···3984a421 If from 4:30 PM to 2:30 am the download is at 30 KB/s... then you're throttled
Btw, what's your router? |

| argh... mid to low 30's on that torrent.
I'm using a linksys wrt54gs
I was reading up a bit on the tomato app, but haven't had time to really go through it. As a workaround to throttling, it sounds promising.
After posting this, I checked UTorrent and it was up at 80kbs...hmmm |

| Asking to know if your router supports the Tomato/MLPPP firmware.
It does: Linksys WRT54G v1-v4, WRT54GS v1-v4, WRT54GL v1.x, WRTSL54GS (no USB support) - Buffalo WHR-G54S, WHR-HP-G54, WZR-G54, WBR2-G54 - Asus WL500G Premium (no USB support)
So... when you feel ready... if you want to... you could upgrade your router to bypass the throttling. |

| This is definitely a chat room now
My router is the Linksys WRT54GS V1.1 and I've flashed it with the Tomato/MLPPP firmware. Right now, with MLPPP enabled, the torrents are not throttled with a speed of 430 KB/s and up (on popular torrents) every day (including from 4:30 PM to 2:00 AM).
Btw, flashing the routers means you're going to put a new program in it (it's like if your computer has windows and you reformat it with Linux). Meaning you'll have to familiarise with Tomato/MLPPP but it's a more powerful firmware.
So I suggest that you read about it before doing in it because I don't want to have a non functioning router but nevertheless, it's quite simple. |

| From what i've read so far, only certain ISP's support MLPPP protocol. I'm assuming Velcom does as you also use them as your ISP?
Shortly after this post the Velcom HD emailed and confirmed that they support the MLPPP protocol. |

| I've upgraded my modem to the firmware 6.2.17.5. So far so good, but I'm not into testing the different modems firmware. But the good thing about the modem is that you can use this utility »dmt.mhilfe.de/ which will give you a complete stat about your line condition.
Bicephale, a member here did do some tests about how the different firmwares responds to the telephone lines. |

| Hi McGusto and Quake110
I've been following this thread for the last few days. Being a Velcom user, I have the same modem as McGusto so would there be any benefits to buying the SpeedTouch 516?
Also, I would be interested in trying MLPPP so I would consider replacing my Netgear router with the Linksys you mention in the previous post.
I attempted the Windows XP MLPPP tweak but that didn't improve connection speed nor torrent speed.
Thanks |

They have a shop on Matheson/Kennedy, downtown T.O, and Markham. The price is the best I've found, $49.99 |
