I have my netopia set to update every 7th of the month and for some reason this caused to drop my connection and re-synched at a lower speed..
Is this update necessary at all? |

| reply to asjamias You can disable the auto updates if you want to.
It should not cause a restart/re-sync unless it actually updated the modem's firmware.
I normally disable it because in the past it has messed up all my settings in my Netopia 3347NWG-006 Wireless Gateways causing me to have to reconfigure them.
You can always manually check for updates ever now and again.
I like to hear from others if there are problems experienced from the updates or features removed before updating the firmware. -- .

| reply to asjamias from the monday and tuesday logs that I took, it looked like it tried to update the modem [firmware?], failed, then it shut down, then on, re-synched....
yesterday even with the heavy rains we got here, it did not show any failure or signs of losing synch. |

| I have the Netopia 3346 v 7.1 router/modem and have never updated it. Part of the reason why is that with my previous Netopia Cayman 3220 router, updating firmware was very tricky. I did it but it was so intimidating that I decided when I got the new one that I would only do it if my router/modem wasn't working properly. Since the Netopia 3346 has never let me down (knock wood), I don't want to tempt fate and mess it up by updating. My advice is to quit updating. But I'm not an expert, just an experienced end user. -- jbooksNOSPAM@bellsouth.netremove the "nospam" from the email to email me.mhttp://www.johnsonsusedbooks.com |
