Matt posted : The Velicoraptor doesn't use the standard SATA connectors on the back according to every article I've read. The big ass (cosmetic) heatsink is really just a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter and has some weird adapter built in so it works with standard SATA.

If you can plug a SATA cable in, there's no reason it wouldn't work though. SATA is SATA is SATA. The Raptor just spins the platter faster.

pandora posted : I mistakenly went with a 7200RPM 200GB drive, thinking it may have some effect on performance. It does not. A 10,000 RPM drive would add heat, make the fan louder and games less enjoyable, but wouldn't add to game performance in my experience.

The only thing a faster drive seems to do is slightly increase installation times. This is a very very small percentage of use. I'd suggest getting a low power 250 GB drive if you can, they run about $100 and are what I'll install on my 2nd PS3 whenever I'm motivated to do it. Installation of a laptop SATA drive on a PS3 is trivial. However, I suggest watching a video or two on youtube just to make certain there is nothing not completely understood. Some real time installations seem to take only a couple of minutes.
--
"People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use."
