4 edits | CIPPIC opens Bell/Rogers internet throttling investigation
We are interested from hearing from individuals who are subscribers to Bell or Rogers high speed internet services who are concerned about alleged internet throttling practices by Bell and Rogers. If you were or are a subscriber and would like to express your concerns, please contact Robert Hester at the CIPPIC.
---------------- Update: for greater clarification we are not looking at customer's experience with ISPs who are negatively affected by Bell's throttling. However, if you were once a customer of Bell and have since switched, we are interested to hear from you.
To the many who have expressed interest via email thus far: You should expect a response in your inbox this coming Monday (July 15).
Some individuals have already emailed lengthy comments. At this stage we are looking for initial contact to be made and will progress with more depth in the future.
Great thanks to all who have submitted thus far. -----------------

For example, customers of wholesalers like TekSavvy? We're still affected by Bell's throttling. |

I will respond to all emails. -- »www.cippic.ca |

@videotron.ca | I hope this turns into a class action like with the Quebec Consumers Union. |

| Cogeco and the 3rd parties are probably not being mentioned in this because they do not own the infrastructure. Bell and Roger's do...thus they are 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd tier suppliers to the consumer.
Cogeco and Teksavvy are 3rd tier suppliers...and by proxy they can do what they want.
Cut the beast off at the head. |

| said by Wolf Fu :Cogeco and Teksavvy are 3rd tier suppliers Huh? TSI relies on Bell for connection, yes, but Cogeco has their own infrastructure, and doesn't have to rely on anyone. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

Cogeco is Canada's fourth largest cable company. They own their own infrastructure and, from a network standpoint, are identical to Rogers. In fact, Cogeco resells their services to other ISPs like Bell sells to Teksavvy. Cogeco is very much in control of their own network. You may want to do some more research into the telecommunications industry in Canada before you comment on something that you clearly haven't got a vague clue about. -- I swear that I will faithfully and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen. |

Bell, Rogers, Cogeco, Videotron, and Shaw are all Tier2 Providers.
There is no residential provider I am aware of in Canada that classifies as a Tier1 provider.
All these companies pay for IP transit from their upstream providers and do not have an open door peering policies setup. |

Right, though I suppose Bell is the closest thing we have in Canada to a Tier 1 provider. -- I swear that I will faithfully and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen. |
