Westell 327W and a Linksys Router. Port Forwarding....

Hi everyone

So first of all let me describe how I have my network set up. I have a Westell Versalink 327W and a Linksys WRT160N. I have the Linksys connected into the Westell and I use the Linksys as a router for both wired and wireless connections. You might be thinking something like "dude the Westell 327W is a wireless router + modem why don't you just use that and remove the Linksys?" Well I use the Linksys for wireless because the wireless part of the Westell is broken. So I just use the Westell as a modem and connect it to the Linksys. I have a cable from E1 on the Westell to the INTERNET on the Linksys. My and my brother's computers are connected into the Linksys. Everything works I just need some help configuring port forwarding.

Basically, I went to the Linksys guide on portforward.com for port forwarding and followed the steps. Didn't work. Utorrent says the port isn't forwarded correctly. I turned my firewall off any everything and still doesn't work. I'm pretty sure I set up the Linksys right. I think the problem has something to do with the Westell not being configured properly with the addition of a router. Since the Westell is supposed to also be a router in itself. Unfortunately for me I have no idea how to configure it properly. I want to be able to use the Westell as JUST A MODEM and let the Linksys do all the wireless and port forwarding stuffs. Would buying a modem that isn't a "modem-router in one" be a possible solution?

I HAVE gotten port forwarding to work when I was just only using the Westell. I have the Linksys in my set up now because my sister got a new computer and she wants to be able to connect wirelessly.

Any help is appreciated. I want to be able to enjoy all the benefits port forwarding has to offer. I already miss downloading torrents (for legit purposes of course) and hosting Dota games on WC3.

Thanks in advance..

Easiest would be to configure the Westell modem as an unrouted bridge. That makes it "just a modem". If Verizon uses PPPoE in your region, you will then need to put the PPPoE information in the linksys.

The alternative is to setup Static NAT on the Westell, with the linksys listed as the static NAT host. That, in effect, forwards all ports to the linksys, so that you can then control it with the linksys port forwarding configuration.

Ah. I went the static NAT route. I can't believe it was that simple. I knew I had to somehow forward traffic from the Westell to the Linksys. I probably should have just gotten a wireless access point. Oh well.

Thanks man.

I'm glad you have it working.
