I was having an issue with COD4. My entire computer didn't shut down, but the game would crash on most servers about 5 minutes into the game. It turned out to be some issue with the latest NVidia drivers.

I rolled the drivers back to the version previous, and it solved my problem.

If it is your CPU, then try monitoring your graphics card temp while you are playing. When the computer just shuts down, it is usually heat related and the 7300GT isn't the best card in the world for playing those two games.

What resolution do you play the games at? Have you updated to the latest game patches?

That it crashes on both games suggests it is a video card heat issue.
