Apparently the music thieves now drive internet policy

All this wailing and gnashing of teeth in the U.S. and Canada and around the world for that matter is driven by the music & movie thieves. Threaten to cut off their daily fix and they mobilize groups to restore their unlimited access to FREE content. God forbid anyone thwart their desires and off to court they go demanding their "rights".

There is no question that the group you have singled out is involved in this fight. However, I think it's a little short sighted to imply that they are the only group with something at stake with this issue, which is really larger and more fundamental than your comment would suggest.

If by "common people", you mean music and movie thieves, then you are right - I don't care. But if you mean everyone else who pays higher prices to support the leaches, then I do care.

we should shut down the internet to protect the **AAs, then tax consumers and give the money to the telcos to make up for the lost revenue.

that's a win-win! (except for consumers).

does that get it about right?

Hello Mr.Troll!

I download Linux ISOs. I am not a thief yet i disapprove what these incumbent ISPs are attempting to do. Does this make me a thief that is trying to influence Internet policy ?

Is google a pirater too?

Theres no doubt google probably makes some money linking to BT sites, but 99% of their revenue comes from other searches, legit ones that I'm sure not even you can find a downside too. Yet theyre getting involved in this too...Why, for PR?

The non-narrow minded can see this is much more important then people getting their music fix. I'm sure your anti-BT thinking is well known on these boards... but to hate net neutrality all together? Come on...you can't be that narrow minded.

Seems like some PPL still don't understand it's not about music and P2P, and it Is about digging into users privacy and fleecing their money. This also translates to control over everyone.
All these hassles are created by satanic and luciferian organizations trying to instill New World Order everywhere. They have been at it for 1,000's of years. Go learn your history and how it applies today.

Ah and what shall we do with our levies on blank media? Note that Canada is not alone in having their own little micro levies for the music industries on cds, tapes, and such. Some other places also include recorders, dvd players and so forth.

I simply don't see those going away, ever.

People tend to get uppity when money comes flying out of their pocket, and are accused of committing acts by proxy.

Nice try. This is what he said : "All this wailing and gnashing of teeth in the U.S. and Canada and around the world for that matter is driven by the music & movie thieves. He basically blames this anty ISP reaction on pirates and simply chooses to ignore the positive uses of P2P as i described in my post. A troll is a troll.

Well these "thieves" also tend to be the more tech savvy of us. They tend to not have white hair on their heads and green bills shoved up their arses.

So YES, the thieve have a great influence towards the web trends.

Here's the deal today, any web enabled pc can access youtube.com that handy site happens to have A LOT of music on it. Now I know your going to say, "Yea but...", here's the reality. UMG has starting putting their own music online. With just a few clicks almost any artist can be heard. Same applies for a few other sites too.

Personally I've not downloaded any music, as I've found most things on youtube.

Oh, since you can't return a cd, instead of sampling the cd in store, you download and listen at home. If you deem it worth a purchase, you proceed to the store and purchase it. If not, delete.

Constantly repeating a baseless accusation doesn't make it true. But many here think that if they yell loud enough and long enough it somehow will become true.

Not all 'common people' pirate music and movies 24/7 as the stereotype you bring up..

Well I admit I do download music on occasion (not the popular shit some of you listen to, nor via P2P) just because I don't have the funds to buy every single CD. Some of them are even pricey or even not pressed anymore.

I use the internet for more...normal things like you do also..

»freemetalalbums.blogspot.com

Go ahead and accuse me of providing 'pirated' stuff, because the stuff this site links to is media provided by bands themselves.

In YOUR opinion, after all opinions are like farts sometimes you can only stand the smell of your own brand.

But the point of the matter is throttled service affects everyone, I update my linux distro via torrent. I download public domain music off torrents all the time. I use you-tube, and many other bandwidth intense things. So how dare you say that those of us who want net-neutrality only do so to be able to download pirated materials! It is an uneducated, opinionated, and silly statement to make.

Cheers, and try not to make such a blanket statement in the future, it will spare you embarrassments, and flames next time 'round! Cheers

I would be spared flames if posters followed site rules. Too much to hope I guess.

And if you read the post you would see that I didn't say that ONLY those who pirate want net neutrality. I did say that the Pirates want net neutrality, but made no mention of other groups.
