Converter box expiration

I subscribed to obtain 2 digital conversion box cards in the beginning of the DTV2009.gov program. Recently, I went to use one of the coupons at a Wal-Mart store and upon doing so the clerk notified me that the card had expired.

To my surprise I made a call to the listed number on the back (1-888-DTV-2009) of the card and was told they could do nothing for me and said, if I would like to speak to a specialist they would transfer me. I agreed and when connected was told other people where told the same thing and that there are no specialist.

I proceeded to tell the person the same that I told the other about the card expiring. The card came too early and at the time there where no boxes available.

Again nothing could be done with a slight exception of being told. “An inventory can be done”, I suppose to see if my story was straight about there being no inventory at the store I went to when originally seeking to get the converter.

I asked if she had a reference number because I gave her my name and zip code and was given 1407. I was then told that I would not know when, and that no guarantee could be made if anything would get resolved.

I feel this program is horrible. Why is there even an expiration date on these cards if it is suppose to help those like myself on a fixed budget who can’t afford to pay high cable bills or go out and buy a digital ready TV? The converter boxes where not even available and the coupon expired now they won’t reissue and I spent time for nothing.
