| [crt/lcd] Problems with video
More than once in the past two months, I am usually browsing and listening with Winamp and suddenly the screen goes blank. I can close applications but I cannot see the display on the screen nor has the display gone into standby. I have to hit my power button to get my display to show normally again.
My monitor is an LG 17" LCD I bought 3 or 4 years ago and my video card is an ATI X1600 Pro 512MB I purchased 2 years ago. I am also using the most up to date video and sound drives under Windows XP Home.
What could be the causes that cause this anomaly to occur?
UPDATE: Happened during a 3d game. I could still head but could not see anything. Don't know if it is a video card or monitor issue.
UPDATE #2: Apparently the garbage on the screen not only showed up in normal Windows boot but in safe mode as well!
UPDATE #3: I just tested another monitor with the garbage showing, I have to presume the culprit is the video card. *grumble* |

| reply to mrchris Check to see if the video card fun is running, and is clear of dust.
If the problem persists, try removing and reinstalling the drivers.
Also check to be sure the cables are securely connected. Try wiggling it around when you have your desktop up and see if you get any glitches or other anomalies. -- Ha ha haaaaaaa....ever get the feeling you've been cheated?
