[ Equipment] Best home antenna setup

I tried without success using a Sprint EV-DO setup (took 6 months to get the billing corrected with Sprint after I discontinued service) and had bought a special antenna for outdoor mounting. No big surprise but it did not improve the signal significantly.

I am interested in trying Verizon's EV-DO service and expect the same signal strength problems as I experienced with Sprint. I have a satellite dish on the roof directly above my office so there is a solid mounting point and existing HQ coax from the dish to a internal/infernal modem. I would like to replace the satellite dish with a EV-DO antenna and run the signal the 40 feet down into the office where I would use a amp to boost the received signal.

Is there a best antenna for this type of mounting? Is it possible to use the coax from the satellite to connect to the amp and EV-DO modem or do I need to do a new cable run?
I have only been able to find setups that are designed for truckers and their needs and the restrictions involved with their tractors. I don't have the same physical limitations for the antenna but do need a cable longer than the usual 48 inches.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many users here are using Our CYFRE Amplifier/Antenna kits for their EVDO Set-ups . I think you will find lots of Positive feedback in the Forums on them.

I see the kits on your site that come with a 4 foot cable which is not nearly long enough to reach my roof where I would mount the antenna to have the best possible signal as I am situated in a bit of a valley.

Hoping someone could direct me to the best antenna option and source for cable or coax adapters for the antenna and the amp.
Looking for an end to end solution and not having to piece everything together an make multiple trips to Radio Shack.

They have everything you need to get you hooked up and running. I would recommend a Yagi antenna, and a 50 ft run of LMR 400, or 9913. Both would do for the distance you have. You may not need an amp, depending on how far away your closest tower is.

After a lot of digging I determined that I needed a non-penetrating roof mount with a mast, a yagi antenna, 9913 cable, adapters for the 9913 N-type fittings, an amp, adapter for the N-type to mini-UHF connector on the amp, and then a Sierra695 to mini-UHF cable to go between the amp and the Verizon card.

I located two excellent sources for the equipment, www.solidsignal.com and www.wpsantennas.com. Matt Larson at WPS Antenas was very helpful and responsive to questions.

I also learned that if using a Wilson amp it is best to get a Wilson 9913 cable and if using a Digital Antenna amp with its mini-UHF connector it is best to buy a Digital Antenna pre-made 9913 cable. It eliminates the connector problem between the yagi antenna and the amp.

There is a 10db gain with the amp and I am only using EV-DO because I am in a fringe area 40 miles from the heart of Silicon Valley, where even DSL is not an option.
