[Need Info] Time Limit on Unlocking Intuit Products?

A couple of years ago I upgraded from Quicken 2003 to 2006 on one of my workstations but not on the laptop I travel within. Now their webpage that is supposed to provide the unlock code instead sends me to another page that gives instructions that do not work. You're supposed to start the program, choose "unlock again", and be sent to a webpage that gives the unlock code (looks like same page I can access from my Quicken account that gives the bogus instructions). The URL apparently no longer exists.

In my mind, this is not far removed from Intuit renting the software for 2 years while telling me they are selling my a perpetual license. Not a happy camper. Is GNUCash any good?

All depends on the contract when you bought it!!!
If they said lifetime updates then call them!!!
If not!!! Oh well!!!

Have you tried contacting support directly?

I had a similar issue many many years ago with an streaming/audio program -- an upgrade took away my license/access to additional content/features without (adequate at least) warning.

The older version wasn't publicly available for download so I requested either they provide me with an install for the older version or a license that worked for the new version. I got the former and was satisfied with that.

Yes, I did. You cannot call them anymore. You have to email your phone number and an agent will supposedly call "within minutes," and, oh by the way, charges may apply.

I am trying to install an upgrade that I purchased on a second machine as allowed by the license. I have the upgrade software on DVD - all I need is the lousy unlock key. I was not able to find it in my email and did not have time the last time I was home to check all the other places it might be.

So you sent them an email?

No, because of the "charges may apply."

Well, following the trail on re-unlocking Quicken, I got to this "email" webform page:

Nowhere does it mention charges may apply. I would try that if I were in your shoes.

Charges "may apply" for a call back but I am not going to waste my time hunting down a link for you. I just tried live chat - they want $9.95 for that.

The email webform still appears to be free.

Either way, good luck!

Re: [Need Info] Time Limit on Unlocking Intuit Products?

I am about to take a chill pill (or three). Had hoped that someone know if I am wasting my time trying to unlock it again (hence the title).

I have downloaded and installed GNU Cash but apparently something is wrong with the Quicken 2006 data file backup. I had told it to "backup" but apparently it copied the individual files (which GNU Cask cannot import). Will have to wait until the next time I am home to try again - I am a road warrior contractor type at present.

Have you tried the Quicken Support Forums?

Quicken for Windows: »www.quickencommunity.com/webx/Fo···Windows/

Quicken Newsgroup: »groups.google.com/group/alt.comp···cs?hl=en

I've been able to pick up some decent info there in the past.

Thanks for the link. Based on what I read in community, there is definitely a problem installing Quicken 2006 H&B, the version I have, on a second computer even though the license says this is perfectly legal. Apparently, you have to email technical support to get access to a download, install the download, and jump through several other hoops. I agree with that poster that such measures should not be necessary for an installation that is in compliance with the license terms.

I finally got desperate after getting home, finding the original order, and finding the code didn't work. So, I broke down and emailed customer support. I really do need to do something toward filing last year's taxes.

I am pleased to report that I got a reply in about 24 hours (on a Saturday) with a link and ID to download a complete copy of the program that does not require unlock codes. It installed and imported my data smoothly.

Happy Camper.

So it wasn't that bad after all. Sometimes your mind can get you worked up over the things and make it out to be potentially worse than it really is when all is said and done.
