@sbcglobal.net | [XP Home] Boot. Then Wait 2 Minutes Before I Can Connect Cannot figure this out. If you seen this question before, a reply with a link would be appreciated if you prefer. I tried searching for answer, but have not found anything.
Problem is as stated in the subject. Issue started after a re-installation of XP.
Computer cannot get onto the internet for 2 minutes after the boot process is finish. No matter what internet application is launched, it will just keep on searching for a connection until the 2 minutes is up. After that, the application will load with the data it just downloaded. Everything afterwards will be normal until the next boot when I will have to wait for 2 minutes again.
I checked the Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings and unchecked everything. Still the same thing happens. This is getting annoying. Any ideas on how this can be fixed?

Do you have an IP address while this is happening? (ipconfig from a command prompt)
If not, I'd suspect a networking issue. |

Have you tried disabling your AV/Firewall software temporarily? I find that I cannot connect or do anything else until my AV downloads updates at startup and does a quick scan. I've learned to live with it. Using ESET Smart Security. |

Are you using DSL and a modem that is only configured in bridge mode (not a hybrid router/modem configuration that supports DHCP)?
Try setting a static IP for your NIC.
i.e.
IP address 192.168.0.100
subnet mask 255.255.255.0 |

Also, if you are connecting to the internet using PPPoE software, including XP's built-in PPPoE client, and have not already, try assigning an IP address to TCP/IP bound to your NIC:

Thanks for the replies guys.
1. During the 2 minutes (maybe 1.5) after booting, ipconfig gives me the correct information. Pinging a website works as well.
2. Only AV/Firewall installed is Windows' firewall. Disabled/Enabled did not make a difference.
3. Am using an old Alactel?? DSL modem & a Linksys wired router. Tried setting the static IP, but could not even connect to the internet after the change. I used 10.10.1.XXX, but even inputting that instead of 192.168.1.XXX yielded no connection.
I am at a loss at what is causing this stall. |

Try without using the router, but set a static IP on the NIC. |

Safe mode w/networking works with no waiting. I cannot try it without a router now because other systems are using the network.
Since it works in safe mode, it looks like some program/driver/whatever is the issue. Problem is how to find it. |

Try a "clean boot" of XP - Method 2 in the following MS KB article:
