Re: [TWC] How to improve signal levels

I had a problem with some signal issues - went out bought new wiring, bought new splitters etc.. Still was having this problem, so i placed a call in. TimeWarner gets me a line tech, he comes over and the problem was at the tap. He than said, why would you waste all your money on this, when we could've done this for free.

moral of the story, call them up they'll be happy to help ya!

I'm sure TW will fix it free, I had internet phone installed and they checked all the levels, had problems so the cut off end connector and put on new ones, replaced a splitter and made me a new patch cable all for free.

Give them a call, you're paying for it.

Might be a bad splitter.

Try new cable (or end connector)and/or splitter, or run the modem off one main splitter branch and the rest of the equipment off the other.

It gets about -2.5 DB downstream plugged into the main splitter so its a good line!

Depending on the freq. they're using for the downstream carrier you are going to lose about 6 or 7 dB for every 100 feet, and on each of the splitters you will lose 3.5 dB.
You can try getting a dedicated line to that first splitter, but it sounds like you might not have good levels coming into the house....

Well lets see.. 2 splitters. 100 - 50 ft. from the main one.

What is the cable set up like? From the where the cable hits the house how many splitters does it pass through and what is the estimated footage of the cable? Ideally the modem would be off of the first split.
