MagicJack Error Broken Storage

I just purchased my magicjack and it only worked for about 4 days. Now when I bootup my computer and try to start up my magicjack and error code displays on my computer monitor that reads Error Broken Storage. When trying to chat with the so called live customer support about the problem. The magicjack website does'nt load properly and there is no software on the magicjack site that will correct the Broken Storage Error Code. My magicjack needs to be formatted are jtagged. One more thing there is no live customer support on the magicjack website. Besides there should be a toll free number that magicjack owners can call 24/7 if they're is a tech problem with the magicjack. I'm going to write the BBB about the magicjack and it's so called live customer support.

ERROR BROKEN STORAGE

The above link is from the magicJack FAQ ..... most certainly does not take a rocket scientist to find.

Good afternoon, mixone90.

I had this exact problem at one point with my magicJack early on. It wasn't magicJack's fault, I was engaging in some experiments with my magicJack (in an effort to understand the technology better) and ended up corrupting data in a region of the flash ROM on my Thin Client. (Are you certain that you weren't fooling with your magicJack just a little? )

In any case, magicJack's fix for the broken storage error is to format the flash RAM portion of memory on your magicJack, which will force a fresh installation of the magicJack software from scratch. I also recommend deleting the magicJack software folder (\mjusbsp) from your computer's hard disk as well. (Unfortunately for me, I had to re-flash my Thin Client from scratch.) You will find the magicJack software folder on your P.C. at the following path:

     C:\Documents and Settings\{user ID}\Application Data\mjusbsp

Remember, substitute your user ID in for the {user ID} reference in the above path.

Now, to format the magicJack flash RAM, right click on the magicJack flash RAM icon drive letter in My Computer and choose format. Don't worry if you see two magicJack drive icons in My Computer. Only one of them is flash RAM and will let you format it. The other one is flash ROM and cannot be formatted (well, not through My Computer anyway.) Here's an illustration of how it looks on my computer: (»www.compton.org/images/mixone90-1.png ).

Everything worked out fine in the end for me. It should be a pretty quick fix if you're not using a Thin Client.

Good luck!

Thank you,

Lisa

I have the same problem upon re-boot, I get ERROR BROKEN STORAGE and then have to go through the whole process of formatting the 17.7 mb drive. Is there any fix for this problem?

Thanks, great board.

I think I found my problem. I put a higher powered hub
directly behind the computer usb port. I plugged my MJ in and it works all the time. For everybody's info !
Also, The problem could have been too much daisy-chaining.

So what might "jtagged" mean to *us*? Were you able to format the 2nd USB drive created when the MagicJack USB-to-RJ11 ATA adapter was plugged in? The 1st USB drive is the install/reload drive that runs autorun.exe. The 2nd USB drive is the data store (contacts, call logs, favorites). Format should not be listed in the context menu for the 1st USB drive but should be listed for the 2nd USB drive.

The MagicJack adapter sucks up to almost 500ma from the USB port. All USB ports come in pairs because each USB controller provides 2 ports but both of them share the same 500mA maximum current load. So don't plug anything else in the paired USB port to the USB port in which you plugged the MagicJack. You cannot have an unpowered USB *hub* sitting between the MagicJack and a USB port on the motherboard. The power from the controller will feed through the unpowered hub but may not be sufficient after losses to power the MagicJack adapter. There are crappy unpowered USB hubs and there are good ones. Most are crappy. If you don't have enough USB ports to allocate a paired set of them to the MagicJack adapter and must use an external USB hub, it must be a POWERED hub. That's not just a problem with the MagicJack. Many USB devices will not function when connected to an unpowered USB hub, and they may try to draw too much current. Some devices consume more than 500mA so they either have their own power supply or you must use a powered hub.

Hi, I just chatted with Real Person at Magic Jack and gave her my solution to this Broken Storage Error. Here is our conversation start to finish.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Felicity'

Felicity: Hello, how may I help you?

Felicity: Hi Donna, how are you today?

Donna Zimmerman: Felicity, I have some info to perhaps help you all there

Donna Zimmerman: I was having a big problem in trying to connect magic jack as I was receiving the error broken storage. After a very long time on here talking with 4 different people , they could not help the situation either

Felicity: Okay Donna, I'm here to help you.

Felicity: Thank you for addressing your concern to us Donna.

Felicity: May I ask when did this started?

Donna Zimmerman: I have found the solution to this error and would like to share it with you and all, Magic Jack is getting a bad rep. on the interenet in Google because of this error. Ok, tell those that are having this error Broken Storage, to do a search in their computer for mjusbs

Donna Zimmerman: when it comes up on their search, have them delete this and then plug in their Magic Jack.

Donna Zimmerman: Then do another search for mjusbs and click on open folder.

Donna Zimmerman: Then in that folder find the icon for Magic Jack and click on open this should do a fresh download and it then should work! It worked for me and I wanted to share it with you. Thanks!

Felicity: Thank you so much Donna, I really appreciate it.

Felicity: Thank you.

Donna Zimmerman: Thank you, just wanted to let someone know and there is alot of problems with this error out there! Thanks again and have a great day!

Felicity: Thank you too Donna.

Felicity: Thank you for stopping by to chat, I hope I did a good job at addressing your concerns. Please take a second to answer a one question survey about the service I provided. Please click the "close" button on the top right of this screen and the survey will appear. Thanks again!

I commend you for your optimism and willingness to take the time to improve MJ. But, the way the support people just read from a script, and can't think out of the box, I doubt they'll use the information for anything.

I bet they've never even seen or used an MJ device. No way to test what you provided to them. They're just reading a script.

Sorry if I'm being cynical.

Mark

hello,
iam sorry for the inconvenience, but i couldnt help noticing that on »MagicJack Error Broken Storage you (bartallensimpson@irtc.net) posted a comment that really was fortunate for me so i read it and i followed it until the last step and i didnt know what u meant about the whole 16 mb part. so i didnt know which file to rename. and the reason why i am not trying anyone elses solution is because im in the same situation as you were for when i got the notice "error broken storage" i deleted everything thinking that if i replugged it it will start form scratch like how other "normal" things do but obviously it didnt work so if u will please help in in my situation i would be most grateful. umm well just to give you an idea of what happened and what pops up in the last part: while it was working and i was talking through it my brother turned off the computer and we turned it back on and again he turned it off while i was talking and when i turned it on again i got this warning sign so when i tried to fix it the whole "error broken storage" thing popped and well you know the rest the things that pop up after your last step is this: first there is volume (c:) then under it is volume (D:) then under it is (G:) then under it is magicjack (F:) but it says capacity 2mb so i thought it was it but since you said 16 i didnt do anything and the thing is that none of them has anything that says 16 mb every thing says capacity 2, 18 and up so again if you would assist me in this id be most grateful and if it would be as soon as possible. i hope that i didnt bother you in anyway and i hope that i contacted the right person.
with gratitude ,
me
p.s. i dont t hink that im going to use this site again i only registered to post this comment cause it said that i have to register to do so so can you reply to this eamil jasmen1992@yahoo.com
again thank you
