| Updating the TV Firmware; nothing found!
Got a LN-T5281F home yesterday.
Searching the Samsung support/download online resources finds no new firmware release!
I have never, ever purchased a new electronic device that did not need to be updated from the shipping configuration.
Is this right? -- Does my set somehow, miraculously have the latest? -- How can one tell please?
Thanks and good fishes to you, Ugly -- Oh, I love the smell of fish. Guts, rotten, it's all good. |

| reply to Ugly said by Ugly :How can one tell please? Might try,
1. Turn on your TV.
2. Press the Menu button on your remote.
3. Select Setup, and then press Enter.
4. Select Function Help, and then press Enter.
5. Use the Up or Down arrow button on your remote to move down to Function Help to On, and then press the Enter button.
6. With Function Help On highlighted (don't actually push Enter on it), press the Info button on the remote. Your firmware revision will be listed as two lines of information. The top line is your software firmware. The bottom line is the hardware revision number.

I DO know the means to get my current version numbers well indeed.
yet the only question that is unanswered for me is whether these are the latest.
Again, I am sorry for being unclear and humbly apologize.
Now, can a fishy bird get a little help here please? -- Oh, I love the smell of fish. Guts, rotten, it's all good. |

Is there an issue with your TV that makes you feel that you would need a firmware update, or is it simply the need to have the "latest & greatest" firmware?
I've had the opposite experience of yours with my home gear, with the exception of a single non-tuner equipped LCD I picked up a few years ago for waaay cheap, I have never needed to update the firmware in any of my TVs.
Come to think of it...
other than a single notorious HP DLP model, I've never had to do firmware upgrades in the field while providing factory warranty service for HP, Polaroid, Samsung or Vizio TVs.
It would be helpful if you could post what your current version numbers are, if you're that concerned about it though.

a highlight...
Samsung says that 81F models manufactured before August 27, 2007 have the early firmware (version 1003). Models made from August 27 to November shipped with version 1007. From November on, they shipped with version 1008, which is supposedly the final version. One way for owners to check their manufacture date is to look at the serial number (which is on a sticker near the back right side). If the last six numbers start with an 8, then the sample was made in August. If it's a 9, or if there are less than 6 numbers, then it was made later.
Samsung does not provide an official way for users to upgrade the firmware themselves, so if you want the latest firmware, we suggest contacting Samsung customer service (800-SAMSUNG) and voicing your complaint. We suggest mentioning the issue with Motion Plus to get the company to follow through with the upgrade.
I guess it's time for you to get on the phone to Samsung? -- »www.otadigitaltv.com Frank Shoemaker would call this noise |
