Re: MagicJack Error Broken Storage

Now when I bootup my computer and try to start up my magicjack and error code displays on my computer monitor that reads Error Broken Storage.

Good afternoon, mixone90.

I had this exact problem at one point with my magicJack early on. It wasn't magicJack's fault, I was engaging in some experiments with my magicJack (in an effort to understand the technology better) and ended up corrupting data in a region of the flash ROM on my Thin Client. (Are you certain that you weren't fooling with your magicJack just a little? )

In any case, magicJack's fix for the broken storage error is to format the flash RAM portion of memory on your magicJack, which will force a fresh installation of the magicJack software from scratch. I also recommend deleting the magicJack software folder (\mjusbsp) from your computer's hard disk as well. (Unfortunately for me, I had to re-flash my Thin Client from scratch.) You will find the magicJack software folder on your P.C. at the following path:

     C:\Documents and Settings\{user ID}\Application Data\mjusbsp

Remember, substitute your user ID in for the {user ID} reference in the above path.

Now, to format the magicJack flash RAM, right click on the magicJack flash RAM icon drive letter in My Computer and choose format. Don't worry if you see two magicJack drive icons in My Computer. Only one of them is flash RAM and will let you format it. The other one is flash ROM and cannot be formatted (well, not through My Computer anyway.) Here's an illustration of how it looks on my computer: (»www.compton.org/images/mixone90-1.png ).

Everything worked out fine in the end for me. It should be a pretty quick fix if you're not using a Thin Client.

Good luck!

Thank you,

Lisa
