Vallyloo Premium join:2004-10-17 Basement | surround sound: one speaker vs many
Hi. I'm looking to set up an LCD TV for gaming in my store. The Yamaha YSP 1100 has been recommended in place of a full surround sound system. Anyone have any thoughts/advice on this topic? Thanks |

| You mean one speaker to act as a front center, Front L&R, Mid L&R, Rear L&R and a Sub-woofer? Must be a very good DTS decoder to know where to send all the sound. -- "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration." |

| it supposedly takes the place of all speakers in a surround unit. of course, it won't have the same effect (guns blasting behind, beside, and in front of you) but it is supposed to sound pretty good. I figure in a store, it might make more sense, but I've never used one before and was hoping to find someone who has?. |

| reply to Vallyloo In my store they sound alright, but the "surround" feature sucks because there are no close by walls to bounce the sound off of. With a Boston Acoustics soundbar (cant remember model) I could hear it more clearly standing 8ft directly to the left or right of the unit than I could standing 3ft in front of it.
Though in a corner, cabinet, or a deep fixture with sides, it sounded amazing (for one speaker+sub). Of course, ymmv. -- Im Your Boogeyman, Thats What I Am |
