good cover for the ISPs

for those not paying attention, the ISPs say

"the AG made us do it!"

which deflects customers cries of "why did you cut newsgroups, you money grubbing, cheap ISP?"

the AG gets to posture and preen in his fight against child porn (TM) and the ISPs get hossanahs and attaboys for something they were going to do (or have done) anyway, that probably was going to piss off customers.
