too little too late

I had sprint with a trek 650 and 700p. I switched to iPhone cuz the treo was played out. Palm dragged their ass in coming out with new stuff, blackberry and apple are now the rulers of what once belonged to samsung and palm. The only way I see palm taking back some ground is coming out with a Linux version that can be fully modified.

the only way you can put blackberry in the "ruler" category is if they release a 3g capable device. Until then they are second tier to nokia and apple.

I had a Treo 650 (or was that 750?). Those things are not robust and easily break. They cannot take a beating like the BlackBerries.

From a technical standpoint, perhaps, but, Blackberry definitely rules the corporate world.

The European and Asian targeted BlackBerry 8707 series runs on 3G UMTS networks, albeit without HSDPA.

BlackBerry's 8703, Pearl 8130, 8830, and Curve 8330 models all use EV-DO 3G, which is better deployed in the US than UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA anyway. (But the "world phone" 8830 has to fall back on GSM/GPRS in other countries, which is frankly ridiculous- not even EDGE?)

Right, and that's what Palm has planned...something along those lines. I believe it was 2009.

Oh that's so not true.

First off 3G doesn't work everywhere so there's that. It isn't what defines whether the device is good. Besides as has been said they have one on the way.

In terms of the corporate space, Apple is the one with ground to gain, not Blackberry. They do indeed RULE the roost there.

I have a 700p and am pretty brutal with it. No issues after a year and a half of abuse. The 600/650 had more issues when dropped.

PalmOS is played out but is simple and to the point compared to windows mobile. I do like the new iPhone, just isn't PDA enough for me though.

Coming from someone who has used Blackberry 7130, Moto Q9M, UTStarcomm 6700 and Palm 750W I will always rate Blackberry at the top.. The easiest to use..

Until Blackberry can send and receive email without routing through BIS smtp and RIM, Blackberry simply is not a usable solution for certain fields.

Yeah, all that encryption and security really sucks doesn't it?

What fields are you referring to? Left?

Fire, EMS, homeland security, public safety, disaster response, disaster recovery, military, etc. I think it is bad enough that so many elected officials are using blackberry.

No reason they can't do ActiveSync to an Exchange server without BIS.
