A lot of us can tell horror stories about the conditions of the subway back then. Due to both the state and city financial problems, the TA was doing deferred maintenance. Graffiti laded cars, poor track conditions, conditions of the stations, consist breakdowns causing trains to go out of service. The list goes on. The TA (still the official name under the MTA) has come along way.
