Applications Portability?

I have several WinMo software titles that I have been able to put on any WinMo phone that I have owned. I really like that type of portability.

I was thinking about getting this phone, but I didn't because I am afraid I would have to re-buy applications if I ever switched to a new/different iPhone. I was also concerned with the probability that I couldn't buy one application and put it on two phones that use the same Family account. (my girlfriend and I have two different iTunes accounts.)Of course, since it's new, I also wondered about free updates to fix bugs within the applications.

I think the Apps are tied to your iTunes account, but I'm not entirely sure about that...

Actually, I went from the first iPhone to the new one and just by plugging it in and doing a restore it copied everything over to my new phone. It's as if I had never even replaced my phone.
