| WRT600N or wait for WRT610N?
I'm thinking of upgrading my router to wireless N. I'm considering the WRT600N to run DD-WRT with, but I also saw the 610N is coming out. Frankly, I'm not impressed with the new form factor of the 610N and prefer the 600N.
Considering the 600N is getting hard to find, should I really wait for the 610N? I know the 600N has issues with DD-WRT, and I'm not entirely sure if it only works with version 1.1 or both 1.0 and 1.1. (Alas, in Canada, we only have the WRT600N-CA, which doesn't tell you what version it is).
Any opinions? |

| Form-factor means nothing to me either way...it's a router, not a piece of art.
The differences appear to be primarily cosmetic, same broadcom chip, dual band, gigabit ports, etc., although I believe that the 610N boasts more flash memory.
If you don't like the looks, then go with the 600N...they are not at all hard to find still. -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

| 600's also dual-band.
Interestingly, the 610N is not available in Canada yet according to Linksys... but everywhere retail seems to be selling out of the 600N as if to make space.
Of course, the problem is again v1.0 vs. v1.1 - I'm told the latter works with DD-WRT, while the former does not.
And it looks like the 610N may have more memory and flash... making it more useful for DD-WRT.
Decisions, decisions... |

Other than formfactor, DD-WRT support, and antennas. |

| I went and read up on the DD-WRT forums, and they've come to the conclusion that the new "saucer" formfactor routers just don't have the range or speed of the old style with external antennas.
Now, this wasn't tested on a 600 vs 610, but it's been on a 300/310. |

Maybe yes...maybe no...as with most routers, based on your network, environment, etc., your mileage may vary...
Frankly, some folks just ain't happy unless they can see antennas, and conversely, some look at antennas sticking out as "old school"...I do not really care either way...what I do care about is the router working...reliably. It does that, then I pretty much could care less about "looks"... -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |

wrt600n v1.1 has dd-wrt working (i know we are using two v1.1's with dd-wrt) . It does dual bands together |
